Tread lightly by (that1hugboxer)

This is a continuation of Hide and seek by(that1hugboxer) and Beau Did i scare you?by(that1hugboxer)

You are Vicky Vanderholt , your security detail has an aboriginal man in custody after he killed several of your top breeding fluffies.

You approach the cell.

“You are a long way from the outback sir, what brings a man ninety-one hundred miles across the globe?”

The man scoffs at you.

“The Illawarra woman committed three great sins. She birthed a child whose father was not her husband, she married a man from a tribe other than her own and worst of all she brought a half cast child into the world!”

You look at him confused.

“You chased this family across the globe to do what exactly?”

The man stares at you as if the answer is obvious.

“Because those who violate our laws must face punishment, your laws, your customs, even your jurisdiction , they mean nothing to us !”

“And once you found them, what sort of punishment were you planning on enacting? And on whom?”

The man leans in.

“The mother would have her tendons severed by spears and be beaten with boomerangs. The father would suffer the same fate for shielding her from us. The youngest child would be brought back to Australia for elders to choose his punishment and the father of the youngest boy has been exiled from his community .”

“And what about Duncan?”

“The octoroon was originally going to be left in the outback to die. But now his punishment will be much more severe.”

You begin to laugh.

The man scowls.

“What is so funny?!”

“You might be able to scare Yindi & Bambam into submission, hell I’d even put money on Jessie going back with you, but Duncan!? He’s not going anywhere.”

“The half cast hid his family he’s clearly afraid.”

“You’re absolutely right, Duncan is afraid, but the fear of potentially losing his family has brought out a side of Duncan I’ve never seen before. If I were a betting woman , I’d put my money on him”

The man cackles.

“ ignorant child! If You can’t make a race horse out of a donkey, then what chance does a mule like him have?!”

At that moment Duncan radios in.

“Bring the featherfoot , the warriors have agreed to back down in exchange for his release.”

The man screams furiously.

“LIES!!! Our warriors do not compromise . They choose to face slaughter with courage than life secured through cowardice”!”

“Understood Duncan. I’ll have him brought out immediately.”

You put away your radio then turn towards the man.

“ did it hurt?”

The man looks at you confused angry .

“What nonsense are you on about now?! Why the hell would think I’m any more injured than when you put me in this cell!?”

You smirk

“ because that mule kicked you pretty fucking hard.”

It’s funny I used to worry a lot about my stories being “good enough” to the point that I wrote in half short story length to test the waters. This ended with me posting 2 to 5 times a day . As time went on that anxiety popped up less and less. Until I was comfortable with only posting once a day some times more sometimes less.

I know that this is amateur level writing. But for the first time in my life I actually feel as though I am improving as a writer in any noticeable capacity .

My earlier stories are very hit or miss. Hell I wrote a horrendous fluffy character with not one but three separate multi part series. Distribution disruption, the exodus heist and crossing rubicon. Which funnily ties into the Hasbiotaur and labyrinth club story line which were the most fun to write for me personally. Anyway sorry for rambling and thank you for reading my stories

For a very very long time the Australian government would actually hand over aboriginal people who had broken laws to their communities because it was easier than dealing with them potentially rioting. (Easier than having to do their job, not easier politically) so a lot of the older generations feel entitled to this kind of “justice”.
