Fluffy self-preservation is an odd duck
They’ll stand up to creatures far bigger and stronger than they are, but the second they recognise danger they’ll actively abandon everyone else to save their own ass.

So the psychological impact of the presence of eldritch creatures beyond the understanding of human and fluffy alike sent that mare into premature labour?
I hope that those premature shitrats will be born with some eldritch mutations,talons, extra limbs and toothy maws in places where maws are not supposed to be.
It would be funny if the mare succeeded in keeping her foals in only for the mutant foals to violently claw and chew their way out of her womb.
