Yeah i based them off of Flurry Heart from MLP. I think she is adorable but is written so poorly into the show, so this is me trying to write a baby alicorn right. Also, they’re a genetic mutation. Her wings were meant to be tiny “regular fluffy” wings but she came out of the womb with two gigantic angel wings.

Since she was born with enormous wings, did that do some lasting damage to the mare?

No. It made birthing her take a lot longer, but they did no damage to her mother, Vanilla.
