Abandoned Angel

Part 58: Old Family Is New Again

It turned out that, surprisingly enough, people wanted houses with safe rooms. It was a selling point, who would have guessed? Robert’s house sold quickly. Finding a proper house was actually easier than he had anticipated. Four bedrooms, two baths, basement, garage, fenced in back yard. It was everything he needed. With final signature, it was done.

“You really don’t mind?” Erin hugged her sister again.

“Not at all! Besides, you and Robert could use some away time from your kids.” Susan grinned, she enjoyed teasing Erin that her fluffies were their children. Polaris, never one to be left out of hugs, wrapped her legs around Susan’s leg while Flame watched from the door way of the safe room.

Erin hugged her sister again. “Two weeks, don’t forget. Not a day less!” Erin was tasked with taking their fluffies to her sister, who volunteered to babysit as it were as they moved while Robert had been dealing with the logistics of moving. He hugged each fluffy, promising to see them soon.

Each fluffy received a hug from Erin and no tears were shed. Promises of fun and friends brightened their somber mood. Polaris patiently sat next to Susan’s leg, waiting for permission to meet these new fluffies. Her bright blue tail twitched in anticipation. Her mummah trained her to never go up to strange fluffies without permission. She tilted her head as she took the sight in. The mare was a very pretty blue and green with wingies. The red one reminded her of Flame, her daddeh but his eyes were closed yet he wasn’t asleep. The last one wasn’t a pretty color, he was brown with white and seemed younger, but she couldn’t figure out why.

Polaris looked up at her mummah, she so badly wanted to play with these new friends! “Mummah? Nyu fwiends?”

She knelt down and gave Polaris a reassuring pet. “Not friends. Family. Brave, the red fluffy, is your brother. Angel, the blue fluffy is your aunt, Brave’s special friend. Pizza is the brown fluffy, your cousin, their child.”

“Pizza? Pizza ish nummies nu fwuffy!” Polaris was so confused, especially when Pizza whimpered and tried to cover his ears with his hooves.

She chuckled, knowing the story well, “no, he isn’t nummies. That’s his name. Go meet your family.”

Polaris bounded over, showering her family with hugs and shouts of “Nyu famiwy! Nyu fwiends! Wub fwuffy famiwy!” Pizza joined in, just as eager. She rubbed her nose against Pizza’s nose, “wan pway?!” Her hooves tapping against the wood floor, unable to wait for an answer she chased a stray ball with Pizza not far behind. Angel joined in the fun as Brave “watched” with his ears twitching.

Suddenly the floor fell from Brave’s hooves as Susan lifted him. “Soosen? Why wift Bwave?”

“I have someone you should meet.” Flame’s head disappeared back into the safe room. She frowned slightly, he had rarely exhibited any of the skittishness since she brought him home. Flame trembled ever so slightly with his tail wrapped around his legs. “Flame, I’ve got someone for you to meet.”

“Dat fwuffy.” His nose wrinkled as he sniffed the air. “Smeww wike fwuffy. Wook wike fwuffy.”

“Observant and straight to the point as usual.” Brave’s hooves touched the floor once again. “This is Brave, one of your babies.” Flames eyes widened a bit yet he didn’t budge. “Do you want to hug one of your children?”

“Fwame gif huggies to fwuffy?” His tail began to swish, he still asked for permission before hugging Polaris, or even his new human mummah.

“You can hug him.” Susan smiled. It was annoying, in a cute way, no matter how many times she told him it was okay, he still asked.

Brave sniffed the air a few times. “Smeww wife fwuffy daddeh.” His ears twitched to the sounds of soft hooves padding on wood. The smell grew stronger, the soft thock thock grew louder. Instinctively Brave stood up on his hind legs, his front legs held out as he received his first hug from his fluffy daddeh. “Wub fwuffy” Susan couldn’t tell which fluffy said it, but it didn’t matter.

Flame and Brave leaned against each other on the makeshift bed while Angel, Pizza and Polaris played with blocks. As much as Angel wanted the best block tower, none of them could get more than four high. Nothing she tried allowed her to get that fifth block up there, each time the three towers tumbled and they tried again.

“Bwave, Pizza ish gud fwuffy?” Flame nudged against Brave. It was almost like two old men watching their children, or even grandchildren play.

“Pizza gud fwuffy. Ish Powawis gud fwuffy?” Brave nudged back.

“Powawis gud fwuffy.” Both Brave and Flame nodded, both fully content laying on the bed while the others played. “Bwave… Bwave wan hug?”
Brave nodded and received the second ever hug from his father. “Fwame fwuffy daddeh gud daddeh.”

Polaris looked over, she loved hugs so much! “Daddeh gif huggies?!” The block tower tumbled down as she ran over, creating a large fluff pile hug. Angel and Pizza, not wanting to be left out joined in.

Polaris awoke early, as usual, and nummed some day old nummies. The bowl, she noticed was much larger than before. As she ate the limp lettice she noticed Pizza stirring. He pulled himself out of the pile with a confused look as he wandered about for the litter box. Inside, deep inside, she felt a stirring. “Pizza? Wan huggies?”

He pulled himself away from the litter box. Does a fluffy want huggies? Does a smartie steal land and nummies from hoomins? “Pizza wub huggies!” He waddled over, unable to shake the sleepiness from his body. Polaris turned from Pizza. There was something about his scent. She lowered her front and pushed her rump into the air. “Siwwy Powawis, dat’s nu how yu huggies!” He wrapped his front legs around her tail and hugged.

She gave him a look full of hurt and confusion. He smelled like a stallion, he looked like a stallion. But… he didn’t want special huggies! “Pizza nu wan spechew huggies?”

Pizza looked confused and sat on his rump. He tapped his spechew wumps. Nothing. He looked at Polaris, then back down, then back at Polaris. He shrugged his shoulders, gave her a proper hug and went back to the fluff pile. Polaris looked back, a mixture of hurt and confusion crossed her face. Wasn’t she good enough for spechew huggies?!

Susan sipped on her coffee, thoroughly amused at the little fluffy family she was currently ward of. Flame told her of Polaris trying to, in not so many words, seduce Pizza. While they were genetically related she surmised that cousins were a far enough branch away to mate with in regards to fluffy genealogy. Soon all five fluffies occupied the kitchen, milling about her feet. They were all fed, they must’ve been bored at this point and in desperate need of human companionship. Too bad she had to work in a few hours.

Brave leaned against one leg, while Flame leaned against the other. She was fully pleased that Flame finally took to his family. They needed something to do as a “family.” From the box Erin left, she pulled the coup de grace. With a small press, the ball started chiming in her hand. As if the whole family was effected by hive-mind, “CHIWPY!” She threw the ball, all five fluffies went running down the hall. Sometimes it was too easy.

Erin’s suggestion worked out well for the safe room. It was the farthest from their bedroom, so their evening fun time wouldn’t keep their fluffies awake, nor would their little family wake them in the night. Robert leaned against the wall, his palms sweating as he tried to stay calm. Erin faced the window, the setting sun washed the room in a brilliant red.

The muscles in his leg strained as he went down on his knee while Erin rattled off color suggestions. “Ahem…” She turned to see Robert with a ring box perched in his palm. The glow from the sunset hid her blush.

It took only one week to properly move in, and another week to consummate their new status. Their house, now a home, felt empty. Several times she had disappeared in their new home, only to be found with a contemplative look as she played with her new ring. Robert put his arms around his fiancé. “Is it time to bring them home?”
