In the state most of my stories are set in, fluffies are now legally classified as somewhere between animal and human. So the laws that protect animals now protect fluffies too, as do many of the laws that protect humans.

And since fluffies are mentally children, more or less, the laws protecting children also protect fluffies.

So once again, I find myself agreeing with you.
