No existing scientific lore reason. Fluffy fluff doesn’t seem to obey the laws of physics since it cannot keep them warm unless its deadly hot, does not cool them off unless its freezing, gets heavy when wet but does not increase its tensile strength mor does it protect them i arod conditions.
There may be a way to reason some of this. But for right now its just plot vulnerability.

Differs author to author. But Cleveland relies on quick ignition but being slow to kill.
Fluffy fluff has to be soft. That precludes many explanations. Many authors like them easily shaved so that does others.
There is no lore on Fluffy toxicity, but there is nothing contradicting it either. So lets say Fluffies produce and secrete bromine. Enough to slow flame but not kill it.
The more a Fluffy panics, like by running around, the more thry will excrete until i it rubs dry and they soon perish.

I presume a combination of wanting to torment mothers and wanting to portray happy mothers.
