Before the Storm - Different Forecasts: Love Hurts Ch 1 [By BFM101]

This is just a quick little side-story off from the main series, I may do a few of these depending on where I go with some of the characters. For this first one we’re looking at an earlier time for Crowley’s herd, before Crowley was the Smarty Leader, back when Crusher and Breaker first met.

I debated whether or not to put this in the LGBT section since I wasn’t sure if it classifies as an LGBT story or just a story with LGBT elements. I’ve opted to put it in the regular category because while the romance angle between Breaker and Crusher is half the story, the other half concerns the whole herd in the days leading up to Crowley’s inauguration so I felt the more neutral category would suit the all encompassing nature of the story.

Which is a long way of saying this has a Gay Fluffy Love Story so prepare yourself for that.

Breaker stomped his hoofs down and broke the purple Fluffies face, killing him instantly. As the ringing in his ears died down he realised two things. First, despite having lived with him for several weeks he couldn’t remember the stallion’s name.Second, although having just seen the look of horror before he caved it in, Breaker couldn’t recall the features of the stallion’s face.

His senses returned to him just in time to notice that Graham, the herd’s Smarty leader, was walking over to him. Graham was a dark brown unicorn with a black mane and specks of blackened Fluff along his body from where he’d survived a forest fire many, many forevers ago, which also cost him one of his eyes. Normally a poopie Fluffy wouldn’t get to the position of Smarty, but Graham had taken the position by force due to his cruelty and his malice, nobody dared to call him a poopie-Fluffy after he butchered the last Smarty by choking him to death on his own babbehs.

“Bweaka du gud wowk, gib dummeh foweba sweepies.” Graham’s crackly voice added to his sadistic appearance. “Did Fwuffies wike dat?”

There was a cheer from the stallions, satisfied with the bloodlust, Graham had started the fighting pits as a way of training the Toughies, but it quickly evolved into a bloodsport, entertaining the herd whilst ensuring that only the toughest Fluffies survived.

It also helped lessen the strain on the food supply with one less mouth to feed.

Graham turned to Breaker, his one good eye gleaming with malice. “Nyo Bweaka git hab enfies wiv anee mawe he wan.”

Graham pointed to where the mares had been lined up, almost all of them shivering and crying, Breaker looked them over, not liking what he saw. Blossom already had a special-friend in Burke, Maggie looked to be favouring the toughie Glen, although they hadn’t gone official yet, and Aqua was barely even a mare, no matter what scent she was giving off. The only mare that looked even remotely interested was Coral, and that’s simply because she was looking for someone to give her special-huggies so she could be a mummah.

She had tried it with head Toughie Crowley but his mate Scorch was already pregnant and for all his faults, Crowley was at least loyal.

Breaker shook his head at the sorry line-up and turned away, heading towards the river stream alone. Graham scowled at the slight before his advisor Crassus distracted him. “Bweaka hab gud fight, wet him west up.”

“Hmmph, dummeh been wiv hewd many bwite-times nyo, stiww nu hab speciaw-fwiend. Neba eben hab speciaw-huggies. Wodan fink dummeh bwoken.”

Crassu scowled at his Smarty. “Yu fink Bweaka bwoken coz nu hab speciaw-huggies? Cwassus neba hab speciaw-fwiends, neba hab speciaw-huggies, am Cwassus bwoken tuu?”

“Dat nu wha… da Fwuff wiv it.”

Graham pushed himself past Crassus and headed for his favourite spot to laze in the shade. Crassus turned and looked towards where Breaker had gone, he knew Breaker wasn’t ‘broken’, he could recognise that much, but there was definitely something different about him.

Breaker sullenly took a drink from the stream, careful not to get too close to the dangerous wawa. He didn’t know why he wasn’t interested in the mares, he tried to tell himself that it was because none of them were willing, but that was a lie. Coral was the most obvious one but there were a couple others who would be willing to look past a little non-consensual enfing without being special-friends if they got babbehs out of it.

He tried to tell himself that he was like Crassus, he didn’t need a special-friend, just another lie if the pain in his lumps were anything to go by. He almost considered enfing one of them just to get this ache out of him but he couldn’t.

No, he could, he just didn’t want to. But he didn’t know why.

Suddenly he heard noises, he looked up and saw some familiar faces, and a couple new ones.

Graham’s top three Toughies were returning from a day’s hunt, Crowley the red unicorn, Burke the light blue Pegasus and Glen the dark blue earthie. The three of them followed Graham’s rule and weren’t afraid to enforce it, though Breaker had noticed Crowley and Glen were more willing to let things slide than Burke.

With Crowley leading the pack, and Glen and Burke taking up the rear, Breaker noticed two new bodies with them, both stallions, one a red earthie with a green mane, one a red Alicorn with a white mane, both of them looked a little worried.

At least the red/green stallion did, Breaker found he couldn’t take his eyes off him.

“BWEAKA!” Crowley called out enthusiastically. “Tuffies bwing nyu fwiends fow hewd.”

“Dey wook gud, whewe find dem?”

“Poopie wittew awwey-way, dey hungwy an awone. Cwowwey teww dem join Gwaham hewd fow aww da nummies and enfies dey wan.”

The red/white stallion nodded so fast his whole body was shaking. “Yeh, wan enfies, wan hab babbehs.”

Breaker looked over at Red/Green, for a brief second the Earthie’s eyes locked with his before darting away, Breaker felt something wash over him, it felt like annoyance but… annoyance that Red/Green wasn’t looking at him anymore.

Breaker scowled at the Earthie, confused and annoyed that he was making him feel these strange things.

“Gwaham in gud-mood.” He said, turning back to Crowley. “Bweaka gib gud fight, gib dummeh foweba sweepies.”

“Oh, who Bweaka fight?”

Breaker shrugged his shoulders. “Sum puwpew Fwuffy, nu wememba namesie.”

Crowley smirked. “Dummeh wose fight, nu desewve namesie. Bu Bweaka am winna, nu habben enfie pwize?”

Breaker gave an awkward chuckle. “Gettin stwenf bak, need aww powa befowe enfing mawes.”

Crowley laughed heartily, Glen chuckled slightly at the rude humour, Burke was less impressed.

“Dummeh git moben, Smawty need see nyu Fwuffies.”

“Smawty can wait.” Crowley said dismissively. “Nu cawe wha Gwaham wan.”

“Gwaham am yuw Smawty, an yuw…”

“Cwowwey knyo who Gwaham am. Nu need Buwke tu wemind him.”

Breaker rolled his eyes at Burke’s loyalty to his leader. “Buwke knyo dat Gwaham twy tu gib Bwossom tu Bweaka as enfie pwize. Mag-ee tuu.”

The look of shock on Burke’s face was almost comical, but he was too far up Graham’s poopie-place to go back now.

“Mawes am unda Smawty wule, he can du wha he wan wiv Fwuffies.”

Crowley sniggered. “Maybe Bweaka gib Bwossom gud-enfies if Buwke dummeh enuff tu fink dat. Wet’s gu, Cwowwey wan see speciaw-fwiend befowe dawk-time.”

Crowley motioned for the others to follow him, Glen, Burke and Red/White moved on without issue, but Red/Green stopped and looked over at Breaker.

“Fwuffy knyo yu wie, yu nu pwan tu enf mawes. Wai say yu du?”

Breaker fumed at Red/Green and kicked at him, striking him in the side of the face.

“Dummeh Fwuffy weawn nu tawk tu Tuffies. Git wowstesh huwties wike dat.”

Red/Green didn’t say anything, which just flustered Breaker even more, but the Earthie knew better and moved along. Breaker took another drink from the river before joining the group at the back.

When they arrived back with the rest of the herd, the shock over Breaker’s fight had largely subsided. Burke and Glen were quickly reunited with Blossom and Maggie respectively while Crowley made his way to the middle of the den and looked around playfully.

“Speciaw-fwiend, whewe am yu?”

A giggled was heard behind a tree, forcing Crowley to get in closer.

“Mmm, speciaw-fwiend mush be gone, Cwowwey hab biggesh heawt huwties. Heawt huwties oba, wet’s find udda mawe.”

“Yu munstah.”

And from behind the tree, Crowley’s mate Scorch came bounding out, she was a burnt orange unicorn with a brown mane and a very slight bulge in her stomach, she was under a week pregnant but far enough along to get that babbeh feeling.

Scorch playfully tapped Crowley’s nose with her hoof. “Scowch am soon-mummah, yu weave poow soon-mummah aww awone wike dat.”

“Cwowwey neba git oba speciaw-fwiend, watha gu foweba sweepies dan nu hab yu.”

“EH-HEM!”

The loud, obnoxious coughing was like needles in the pairs’ ear-drums. They looked towards Graham’s ‘throne’ – a stump that he’d taken claim of – and saw Browner, Graham’s eldest son and next in line to be Smarty. Browner took after his namesake in both look and attitude, he shared his father’s brown Fluff but his mane was a darkened red like his late mother, and he was a Pegasus like her as well. Not that that mattered, Graham had been raising Browner from birth to be his successor, and as such, Browner acted as his father’s voice whenever he could, forcing Fluffies to listen to either him or Graham at all times. Most Fluffies followed orders without fuss.

Crowley, as often as he could, did not.

“Wha dummeh Bwowna wan?”

“Cwowwey bwing nyu Fwuffies fow Smawty tu see. Wet Smawty see dem.”

“Gwaham see dem jus fine, nu need Cwowwey hewp. Wan see speciaw-fwiend fiwst.”

“Smawty am abobe aww udda Fwuffies, Cwowwey knyo dat.”

Crowley reluctantly let go of Scorch and brushed past Browner. “Maybe wen Bwowna am enuff of a stawwion tu hab own speciaw-fwiend he undastan dat nu twue.”

Browner just scowled at Crowley but said nothing, the troublesome Toughie was at least doing his job. Crowley brought Red/Green and Red/White forward, setting them next to each other in front of Graham’s stump.

“Dese am Fwuffies Cwowwey find, dey awone in awwey, nu hewd, nu mummah ow daddeh, jus twu Fwuffy bwuddas.”

Graham looked over the two new Fluffies. “Fwuffies hab namesies?”

Red/Green shook his head. “Mummah neba gib namesies. Am jus Wed Bwudda, an Wed Bwudda.”

Graham snorted. “Gud, make it ee-see-ew. Fwuffies nu hab namesies tiww pwove demsewfs. Wed Wingie-Pointy, Fwuffies awweady hab munstah Fwuffy, Cwassus, an he am Smawtesh Fwuffy in hewd. Yu smawt wike him?”

Red/White looked a little taken aback, plus the cold look Crassus was giving him didn’t help matters. “Um, Fwuffy fink he smawt, can count numbas gud.”

“Weawwy? How high counties?”

“Um, six?”

Graham looked over at Crassus for elaboration, Crassus just smiled and nodded. “Twu wots of thwee Smawty.”

“Hmm, dat gud, bu nu gud wike Cwassus. Yu stay cwose tu Cwassus, maybe he find sumfing fow munstah tu du.”

“Um, Fwuffy wike knyo wen can enfi…”

Red/White was swiftly cut off by a kick from Crowley who shook his head, now was not the time to ask for enfies.

Graham turned to Red/Green. “Nu-Wingie, Nu-Pointy Fwuffy, wha yu du?”

“Fwuffy nu suwe, can fight gud.”

Graham beamed. “Fwuffy am Tuffie?”

“Neba be Tuffie befowe, hab tu pwotect bwudda sumtimes, gibben sowwy-hoofies, neba giben foweba sweepies.”

“Dat change nyo, yu fight wun of Smawty’s Tuffies, yu gib gud fight, den yu can hab namesie.”

Red/Green looked around at the Toughies, he knew they had the advantage of full bellies and better training, but he didn’t have much of a choice.

“Who Fwuffy fight?”

“Smawty wet Tuffies choose. Who wan bweak in nyu Fwuffy?”

“Hewe.”

The herd all looked towards the voice, and saw Breaker stepping up, a furious look on his face.

“Bweaka gib dummeh gud fight.”

Browner shook his head and turned to his father. “ Bweaka jus finish fight, he nu weady fow nyu wun.”

Crassus stepped up to Graham’s other side. “Make fight faiw, nyu Fwuffies nu hab nummies in wong time, dey nu in gud shape, Bweaka am tiwed, eben fight.”

Graham sneered at Breaker, not forgetting his slight against his mare prize earlier. “Wai Bweaka wan fight nyu Fwuffy?”

“Bweaka hab weasons.”

“FINE! Dummeh Bweaka hab fight, nu cawe if he gu foweba sweepie.”

The herd started mumbling between themselves about Breaker having another fight so soon, Breaker just stared down Red/Green. He’d show this new Fluffy and make him pay for giving him pains in his chest, pains in his lumps, for wanting to…

To be near him.

What the Fluff was going on with his head.

Breaker readied himself in the fighting pits, the blood from the purple dummeh he fought earlier wasn’t yet fully dried on the grass. Not that it mattered, he had fire in his heart and he was going to give this new Fluffy the sorry hoofies he deserved, nobody made Breaker’s stomach flutter like that.

Flutter? Was that what he was feeling?

Red/Green stepped forward from the other side, the Fluffies behind him stepped closer together to close off the ring, locking the two Fluffies in place. Breaker fumed at his challenger, waiting for the signal to start.

Graham looked at the two competitors in front of him, this was going to be a good fight.

“GU!”

Breaker sprinted forward and leapt towards Red/Green, the red Earthie tried to move out of the way but was just moments too slow and Breaker was able to bite down on his back, tearing a chuck of flesh out from him.

Red/Green howled as Breaker landed roughly on the dirt behind him, Red/Green was just able to buck his hind-legs and kick Breaker in the face, bruising him just underneath his eye and forcing him to spit out the flesh chunk he’d taken.

Breaker charged at his opponent, the two stallions reared up and locked into a frenzty, hitting their hoofs against each other as they both battled for dominance. Any fears over their tiredness was quickly set aside as the Fluffies felt themselves renewed with the passion of a good fight.

Breaker smacked Red/Green in the face, breaking his nose.

Red/Green returned in kind by knocking out two of Breaker’s teeth.

Then Breaker slammed his hoof into Red/Green’s neck, forcing the red earthie to let go of him and collapse to the ground, his hoofs at his throat.

“Nu bweathe. Nu bweathe.”

Breaker looked down at the disappointment in front of him, and he felt even angrier than before.

“Wai dummeh stop, tuu mush of a mawe tu fight?”

Breaker stomped on Red/Green, then stomped him again, and again.

“FIGHT! Yu dummeh, Bweaka nu dun wiv yu.”

In a flurry of sorry hoofs, Breaker found himself falling over Red/Green trying to hit him, over and over he pummelled the red Earthie until he noticed that Red/Green wasn’t fighting back, he was focussed on something poking in him in the side.

More specifically, Breaker was poking him in the side.

It took Breaker a beat to realise that in his attack, he had inadvertently positioned himself to almost be mounting Red/Green like a mare, then the beat passed and Breaker jumped back, his heart racing, his blood boiling. He looked around at the confused faces of the other Fluffies whilst walking backwards and trying to hide his growing erection.

“Wha… wha da…?”

He couldn’t find the words, too confused, too angry, too scared to try. So instead, Breaker turned around and fled, heading back towards the stream.

Graham went to say something but Crassus got their first. “Cwassus gu tawk tu Bweaka, Smawty stay hewe.”

As Crassus chased after Breaker, Browner leaned in close to Graham, speaking in a loud whisper so that Crowley could hear them.

“Bwowna fink dat Cwowwey nu bwing gud-Fwuffies fow hewd. Wha a dis-a-point-men.”

Crowley turned round and flashed Browner the best snarky smile he could. “Yu fowgit, Cwowwey awweady am dis-a-point-men tu daddeh.”

Graham spat at Crowley. “Yu nu speek tu bwudda wike dat.”

“Dat dummeh nu Cwowwy bwudda, an yu nu Cwowwey daddeh, yu both dee-side dat yuwsewfs.”

Crowley turned and left his father and his brother to rejoin Scorch and rest up with their tummeh-babbehs. He didn’t want to bother with his family at the moment.

Not when he was already planning how to get rid of them.

This ended up being longer than I planned so there’s another chapter, maybe two more to this little prequel before we get back to the main story.

For clarification, Red/Green is Crusher before he got his name, Red/White is Rust from The Secret Ingredient Is Sadness, before he abandoned the herd in search of a special-friend.

Crowley seems not been good with his ol daddy I see…

Indeed, you do. Almost surprised he didn’t let instinct or lump urges make him go to town on that ass before realizing something was off and running away…but then again it wouldn’t make for as good of a story and probably glad to a series of different events.

Great chapter to both highlight a couple of supporting characters’ background while also showing us Crowley’s rise to power.

"Major Spoiler" 😉

Unfamiliar names here compared to the main story, I think they might, just maybe, die. I’m guessing that something happening to Scorch will be the catalyst that really flips Crowley’s switch to who he is today.

Scorch is referenced in the first chapter - she doesn’t have a name, just called Crowley’s mate - where it’s told she was killed by a bird, leading to Crowley attacking Maggie.

Spoiler

Scorch will be alive at the end of this short arc, but now that she’s an established character, Crowley and Crow will mention her in the main series more often.

Forgot to mention, thanks to @Aurix for editing this and a few previous chapters of Before The Storm. As someone whose ego won’t let him edit personally, the second pair of eyes had been a big help

A second set of eyes and mediocre editing skills at your service. We can all use that second set of eyes from time to time, no matter the skill of the writer. Even those as skilled as BFM.

And thanks for the shout out but, honestly, I’m happy to offer what I can to those who give us so much content.
