Corkboard notes -- RQ

You feeling all right skippy you seam to rambling

Oh y’know what I read that as being directed at RQ, not the Garotte Phantom himself Mr. Dennis Rader.

I’m good. I’m high as hell, but I’m good.

Then you read it right

Oh. Well then I go back to my previous stance.

to be expected it’s only wrong when a Christian dose it

What, torturing small animals? Nah cuz, that’s bad whenever ANYONE does it. Not sure what you’re referring to.

See, sometimes I think that the Catholics kind of have a point, because the whole ā€œjust accept Jesus and you get into Heavenā€ thing the Protestants have going on sounds like a cheat code to me. On the other hand, the Catholic church is notorious for corruption, and there was a significant period of time in which you could essentially buy your way into Heaven. Jesus probably didn’t see that coming when he kicked those money changers out of the temple.

I think either way, God would know if someone’s trying to bullshit their way through the Pearly Gates. He’s supposed to be omniscient, right? I’m not religious myself, but I like to think about this kind of thing.

Where did I say anything like that?

I’m not saying anything bad about the image, I’m saying that it’s ā€œfunnyā€ that he’s choosing to take a stance about who’s political positions get to be ā€œempatheticā€ or not in the comments of that kind of image. You can think whatever you want. You can make whatever kind of art you want. But how do you seriously not see the blatant irony about complaining others don’t have empathy in the comments of your art on a ā€œtorture-pornā€ site?

Well seeing as a core aspect of this art scene is that fluffies are meant to be empathy magnets, no. I don’t see any irony in it. RQ generally makes fluffies who are completely innocent victims BECAUSE you can empathize better with them. A lot of folks use art like this to process lived experience of times where others treated US totally without empathy, and this picture is an example of that.

Growing up queer in middle America, I was EXTREMELY well acquainted with Christians and their supposedly unconditional love and empathy. I found it to be lacking.

Wow, that is either utter desperation to ā€œcome out on topā€ in this, or that is some ridiculously disturbing implications right there, m8.
literally lol.

I’ve seen way too much of this site, this art, and the mechanisms of actual psychological trauma to believe any of that without ā€œwe all need to be committedā€ being the only response if it’s even remotely true.

This was fun, though.

ā€œThis just in, artists use art to process their feelings. Local commenter seemingly mystified by this sorcery.ā€ Come on man, use your head a bit.

ā€œCome on man, use your head a bit.ā€

Yeah. You’re acting like this isn’t art, like the idea it could be trying to express an idea is laughable. Why?

I don’t remember saying anything of the sort.

You were pushing back on interpretations of the art as anything more than ā€œtorture pornā€ to dismiss discussions about the political messaging inherent in the work. I’m not sure how else to take that, but feel free to correct me if I’m misunderstanding your hot take.

I’m pushing back on that particular interpretation of the art, because ā€œpeople were mean to me, so I’m going to vent via depicting the brutal rape and/or murder of small animalsā€ has a lot of implications which make you look ridiculously worse than just ā€œtorture pornā€.

Let’s walk back for a recap here.

You started by objecting to RQ characterizing Christians in a negative moral light by saying it was ironic to make such a statement in the comments of some art you find distasteful. This is wrong because it implies that the ACTUAL harm that RQ is referring to regarding Christians they’ve known is in any way morally equivalent to writing a story about over the top cartoon violence mixed with exploitation melodrama.

You then suggested that posting here somehow indicates a LACK of empathy. I don’t have any direct argument here, that’s just a really silly claim to make.

Then when I explained how these concepts might be connected, you reacted by mocking that interpretation and saying it would indicate we all need to be committed. I think that’s almost as silly as the last claim, but at least I can answer this one by reminding you that this art and the stories within it are fiction and should not be cause for alarm. It’s made up. It’s not dangerous.

Then you tried to turn my insult back, which didn’t really make sense in context. Now we’re back here. Wasn’t that fun? I had a great time.

So what ā€œimplicationsā€ are you referring to that have you all worked up?

Never said that. I have, however, pointed out that I never said that.

The ā€œactual harmā€ of their voting habits, I guess.

Either I’m not going to take ā€œpeople were mean to me, so I’m going to vent via depicting the brutal rape and/or murder of small animalsā€ seriously and continue as I am, and just assume this is one of those ā€œI’m not actively sucking an OP’s dick on the comments in a niche community, therefore I am literally Hitlerā€ things, or I am going to take it seriously, in which case, yeah, that’s literally when legitimately disturbed people tend to start getting scrutinized. Things being ā€œfiction and made upā€ is one thing. If said ā€œpeople are mean to meā€ thoughts are what is driving you to create those made-up fictions, that’s literally textbook red-flag ā€œcause for alarmā€.

But I don’t honestly think the latter is where you’re actually coming from, I think you just got all worked up about someone on the interwebs not kissing enough ass, already chose a ā€œsideā€, and are grasping at straws to white knight or something along those lines. You wanna hate the Christians for whatever slights real or imaginary, you go ahead, I honestly don’t give a shit. My point is and always has been: bitching about them here is like bitching about counterfeiting on a shoplifting forum. And I’m going to point that out, because hypocrisy. And I’m going to poke fun at you flailing around trying to white knight the whole thing, because that’s honestly been kind of amusing.

Are you ready for a shocking twist?

I actually AM a Christian.

Not joking.

It’s not hypocrisy, you stubborn dope. It’s art. Quit being so fucking precious about it, and quit telling people we’re ā€œwrongā€ or ā€œsickā€ for channeling difficult experiences into art. It makes you sound like exactly the sort of pearl clutching moralizers that RQ was making fun of.

RQ who, if you bothered paying attention, is Christian themselves.

You showed up in an art forum to tell people how to feel about their lives and how they’re ā€œallowedā€ to express that. It’s petty and shitty and pointless. Just fuck off. You obviously think everyone here is dangerous and deranged, so pound sand. Nobody needs your toxic bullshit around here, and nobody cares that you’re uncomfortable with how we express ourselves.

Now go ahead. Say some 2009 ass bullshit about how ā€œtriggeredā€ I am. Maybe identify as an attack helicopter or whatever the fuck it is people like you do.

Well YEAH. Where I come from, Right Wing politics has gotten thousands of people killed just by COVID alone. They created an extremely toxic environment for anyone who wasn’t a straight Christian, and if you deviated you faced overwhelming social consequences because it was the Bible belt and they didn’t consider you their equal.

They vote to strip basic rights from us. They discriminate against us where they can, and they lobby hard to be ABLE to discriminate against us where they CAN’T. You’re goddamned right their ā€œvoting habitsā€ are harmful.

Or is all of THAT just meaningless whining to you, too? Asking for a friend.
