*Mumma wuv babbehs… babbehs wuv mummah… dwink wots of miwkies… gwow up big an stwong… Dat wite babbehs, mummah wuv aww ob yu suuu suuu much! Yu aww de bestes babbehs any mummah ebah hab! Suuu pwetty an speciaw!*
The babies wriggled and cooed contentedly in Jellybean’s fluff. Their bellies full of her bestest milkies and surrounded by her warm, loving embrace. They were growing stronger and more active. They had all opened their little eyes and seen their mummah for the first time - the bestest feeling ever when Jellybean’s babbehs looked up at her with so much love in their eyes! Then there was so much happiness and huggies and kisses from Jellybean.
Just earlier today, the yellow baby had taken her first shaky steps which had become more and more confident until she wore herself out and curled up in a fluff pile with her still-crawly siblings.
*Wewwo babbeh is fiwstes wawkie babbeh! It nu be wong tiww aww Jewwybean babbehs is wawkie babbehs! …Weww… mebbe nu wittwe white babbeh…*
Jellybean’s pride and happiness was tinged with a little pang of sadness at that last thought. Even though the little white foal had grown much stronger than when it was born, she was still much smaller than the others, and her little hind legs never seemed to work right and were always bent all wrong. Despite that the little foal loved her mummah and siblings and cheeped and cooed happily every time mummah held her close or when she cuddled with the other babies in a fluff pile.
Because of her frail build, she always seemed to be cold, during the day, when the sunbeams came in through the hole of their nest, she would crawl towards its warmth and lay contentedly in them, at night Jellybean tucked her deep into her fluff to keep her from shivering.
*Teensies white babbeh suu wittwe an pwecious, Jewwybean aways keep hew safsies and wawm!*
All of Jellybean’s babies’ coats had changed from the thin velveteen of newborn chirpies to soft, thick, pretty fluff, and their tails had begun to show colors as well.
The lavender foal’s tail fluff had started coming in first -a little tuft of silvery grey that he waggled excitedly every time he looked at his mummah or his siblings.
*Babbeh wub his familw suuu much an awways suu happies!*
His brother, the little green foal had hints of light blue fluff on his chubby behind, and was showing tiny nubs of wings growing behind his shoulders.
*Mummah wub hew speciaw wittwe wingeh babbeh!*
The little yellow foal - the first to walk but soon followed by her brothers - showed the faintest hint of auburn fluff on her little tail. As soon as she had found her feet, she was a ball of activity, but made Jellybean worry because she constantly had to stop her from going too far or leaving their safe nest.
*Wub wittwe wewwo spwowin babbeh! Bu spwowin too dangewous fow babbeh wight now, nee aways keep babbeh safe!*
It was bright time again and Jellybean’s babies were beginning to stir and peep hungrily for milkies. She could feel that she still had some from the last time she went for nummies so rolled over carefully so that her babies could reach her teets. They jostled over each other to latch on to a nipple, all except the little white foal who seemed to accept that it could not compete and instead just curled peeping almost inaudibly.
The yellow and green foals had latched on and were suckling hungrily but, just as they had reached a contented rhythm, the lavender foal managed to shove his yellow sister off and take her teet for himself.
*PEEEEP peep chirr chirp peep!*
The yellow foal protested but couldn’t manage to push her brother off to reclaim her place.
Jellybean instinctively realized she needed to pick a bestest baby soon so the babies wouldn’t have to fight and she would know who to give milkies to first, but this thought filled her with saddies because it made her remember her firstest bestest baby, the pretty blue baby she had given forever sleepies to right when it was born…
*CHEEP CHEEP! Mwuhh…mupeep… MUMMA! peep mummah miwkies! Chirp peep*
A talkie baby! Jellybean had a talkie babie now! She decided her yellow baby was her new bestest baby.
