Squirrel - Chapter 3 (EzPete)

Amy spoke on the phone with her husband just to get him on the same page. They were both animal lovers and moved to this neighborhood hoping to see more wildlife. They supposed the construction scared off most of the wildlife. The HOA forbade dogs and cats as well but as usual, a legal grey zone existed with fluffies to prevent private ownership restrictions since many HOAs simply copied a charter off a random website rather than write an updated one for the modern era.

When he got home, he was greeted by a ball of fluff climbing over his shoes excitedly. “hewwo Mistah Amy!” He laughed, “I’m Mister Matt!” “Nyu daddeh am Mistah Matt!” the red one shouted. “Mistah Matt! Mistah Matt!” They all chanted. He leaned over and kissed his wife. This was all sprung on him at the last minute, but he could never say no to her.

“Ok, little guys! I heard you all need names!” They all chirped and cheered with excitement. He and Amy sat down inside the sliding door at the edge of the patio the foals all tumbled over each other playing and hugging each other. They would need lots of training to ensure they didn’t cause problems, but Amy told them they were fairly polite if a bit unruly.

“Ok, who’s first?” Matt asked. “Fwuffy Am!!” They all cried out. The orange one tumbled over his sister and rolled towards his feet. “A volunteer!” He reached down and picked him up. “What do you think dear?” “Nawme am deaw?” the foal cooed “No silly.” But that gave Amy an idea. She looked at them all and then back at the orange earth colt. “You will be Fox.” He squeaked out “Fawkse wub nyuu namesie!”

Matt sat him down and grabbed the blue pegasus next. “You will be Bluejay.” He thanked them like his brother. Then the red pegasus, “You will be Ladybug”. Then the black earthie, “Bear”, the brown unicorn, “moose”, and finally the gray filly she waited crouching for her turn, flicking her tail back and forth, “Your name is Squirrel!” “Skwiwah wub nyuu namesie!”

They all ate yet another can of sgettis for dinner. Their new mummah misses Amy told them they didn’t have sgettis every day but today was special. That was fine, they were used to eating dummy grassies and just the occasional skettis were better than that.

The next day they all got in the clear box and went to fluffmart together. They got to pick out collar and got shiny thingies called nametags. They got a big soft bed and lots of soft kibble that Mister Matt said was special food that was good for fluffies.

They learned a lot about what fluffies were supposed to live like and saw things like sorry boxes and cages and sorry sticks for bad fluffies. Misses Amy also got them a litter box and explained that they would only make good inside poopies in it from now on.

There were a bunch of other fluffy babies just like them in clear wall boxes all begging Misses Amy to pick them. They were the first fluffies besides their own parents the foals had ever seen and were so surprised that there were so many fluffies in the world. The foals were confused why mummah wouldn’t take them home too and why the other fluffy mummahs were so excited to see humans unlike their own mummah.

When they get back to their new home with their new mummah and daddeh, Misses Amy surprised them all with a ball and blockies. They love their new toys and their mummah taught them about sharing. It was really hard to not try to take the blockies and ball for herself, but she knew her bruddahs and sistah wanted to play with the toys too.

Misses Amy disappeared into a room down the hallway for a few minutes only to return pulling a strange folded up wood thing that looked like a sorry cage. “Ok everyone! Are you ready to see your new saferoom?”

“Safewoom? Wuh am dat?” Fox and Ladybug chirped as they all tumbled over to misses Amy at the promise of, yet another wonder of man bestowed upon fluffykind. They followed her down the hallway as she explained.

“A saferoom is a special room all for fluffies so that they can have fun and play while Misses Amy and Mister Matt can’t be home!” Amy had to walk carefully as she walked to not step on the foals as they swarmed her feet. She placed her hand on the door to open it but was interrupted.

“Buh? Wai-” Moose asked with tears forming in his eyes “Wai mummah an daddeh need tu weab? Nu wub bebbeh nu mowe?” Moose thought about how his daddeh left and never came home one day. The other foals heard this and began to look sad as well. They hadn’t considered this themselves.

“No silly! Me and Mister Matt need to go to work to make money.” She paused for a second, realizing fluffies did not have a concept of currency. “We need to go find nummies for everyone just like your old mommah used to do!”

The frowns were quickly wiped away with exclamations of “wub nummies” and “bestest mummah” while Amy opened the door. The foals were all overwhelmed with wonder as they took in the room before them, it was the bestest thing ever.

The walls were painted like a forest with simple trees and woodland creatures; the roof like a sunny blue sky with yellow sunbeams around the light fixture. A single large window let bright sunlight shine into the room. The floor was lined with puzzle piece foam tiles that made walking much easier for the fluffies than the wood floor.

A round toybox sat in the corner that looked like a tree stump. In another corner sat their new fluffbed with a mobile above it, there were little wingy chirpy friends hanging from it. In another corner was their litterbox, on top of a flat tray to catch spillover. In the final corner was a dresser painted white with rainbow-colored drawers.

The foals all began to spread out running to every corner of the room to explore. “Weawy am twue!? Woom aww fow fwuffehs?” Amy giggled and nodded at them from the doorway, confirming that yes, this small bedroom was all for them.

Matt came in and wrapped his arms around Amy. “I put the crib in the garage. Are you sure-” he was interrupted by a finger to his mouth.

“Yes, I’m sure. This room is going unused and at least now it can serve a purpose after all the work we put into it.” She felt a pang of sadness wash over her for a moment.

“Mummah mummah!” Squirrel interrupted her. “Dat am big poopeh babbeh fwom twee pwace!” Pointing at the painting of a Doe and Fawn on the wall. A few other began remarking on the birds and other animals.

Amy was surprised they had seen a deer in the woods but took the opportunity to explain what each animal actually was to her new litter of fluffies. They were all excited to learn their names all matched one of the animals somewhere in the room. Amy quickly forgot her feelings of sadness as she saw the childlike wonder of the balls of fluff before her.

I bet she’ll demand to have her babies back and be a brat.

This is so sweet. I’m glad to see Fluffies having a nice time in such strong prose. It’s interesting how we can explore infertility and the feelings that come with it through Fluffies. :black_heart:
