Terminology of the NobodyAtAll Literary Universe

While I wait for my missing stories to be restored, I thought I’d knock out another information piece. As always, beware of spoilers, and new entries will be added as they appear in the stories. Please, tell me if I miss any!

AAs: Alicorn Actors, the alicorn fluffies employed at Fluffywood Studios.

Archmage: a title bestowed unto the strongest wizard, who is the leader of wizardkind. Earth has its own Archmage, and so does Magicca. Deston is Earth’s current Archmage, and Panthera is Magicca’s.

Asshole Event Horizon: the point at which an asshole becomes irredeemable. Also a sex move invented by Victor, banned in fifteen states and counting.

Blipping: Teleporting via a device called a blipper, named such by Victor.

Blipper etiquette: the informal protocols of using a blipper, which also apply when not using a blipper to teleport. Teleporting directly into someone’s place of residence is a no-no, as is teleporting someone elsewhere without telling them where you’re taking them, or doing so against their will.

Blipsickness: nausea some people suffer when blipping. It’s not any different from carsickness, seasickness or airsickness, and doesn’t mean that blipping is dangerous. There’s a tablet for blipsickness.

Bloodbags: a derisive slang term for the living used by vampires who don’t like the living.

Blue know-it-alls: a derisive term for Lumixians used by Saingans, who have been putting up with many Lumixians considering them idiotic, boorish louts for a long time.

Borrowing Effect: a side effect of Borrowing, a magical technique that involves putting the mind somewhere else, such as in an animal. The Borrowing Effect is when the Borrowed body influences the mind. Borrow a dog’s body, you’ll start sniffing asses. Usually wears off after a while, unless the Borrower spends too long Borrowing, is particularly weak-willed, or the body they’ve Borrowed is particularly strong-willed.

Click: the sensation Calvin, Marley and Quin feel when they copy another X-Positive’s powers. Also used as shorthand for said power copying.

Code Bleh: One Man Army code for “a Calvin has been turned into a vampire and has been corrupted by his newfound bloodlust”. Not all Calvins who get turned go bad.

Code BM: FauCorp breeding facility code for “a mare has developed Bitch Mare Syndrome”, a rarity in such facilities. Obviously, short for Bitch Mare.

Code Fuzz: One Man Army code for “a version of Rupert Murdoch who survived the Fall of Cleveland is making fuzzies again”. Yes, that happens often enough to get its own code.

Code R: FauCorp breeding facility code for runts. Another rarity in such facilities.

Code WTD: Fluffy Cabal code for “a dinotite has successfully crossed over from Primal Earth to Modern Earth”. Short for Walk The Dinosaur.

Friend to Cats: an exceedingly rare title that can be bestowed upon humans by cats who deem said humans trustworthy. Any cat can do this, but very few humans deserve this privilege.

Gallo: a title bestowed unto the ruler of Vajarsi, who is usually the strongest member of the Saingan race. Roughly translated, it means “the strongest”.

Getting some dip: Hydroxian slang for immersing oneself in water, which Hydroxians must do frequently to survive.

Getting some sip: obtaining demonic powers by drinking the blood of a demon.

Grit-sucker: a very offensive word for dwarves.

Fleshbag: a derogatory term for those who are organic in nature, used by both demons and robots.

Fuzzballs: a derogatory term for fluffies, used by dinotites. Seeing as most dinotites understand neither English nor Fluffspeak, they don’t know what fluffies are actually called.

Hang: the most important word in the goblin language. It means “survive”.

Hemo-gobblers: a derisive term for vampires used by werewolves who perpetrate the grudge between both species.

Hups: the unit of measurement used by Faucheuse power analysing technology. Short for Human Power: one hup is equivalent to the power of one adult normo human. You have perhaps heard the phrase “the strength of ten men”? Pierre created a baseline by analysing the strength of a number of normo humans from a wide variety of demographics.

Knurd: the exact opposite of drunk. No, that’s not sobriety, but all the way past sobriety. When one is knurd, all of life’s pleasant illusions are stripped away, and one sees the world as it really is. Incredibly powerful coffee can make one knurd, and some people are born a few drinks below normal.

Krik: a word from the Tennebite language meaning, roughly, “not of Tenneb”. Also means “enemy”, “danger”, “death”, and “vermin”, along with a word that will get you slapped for saying it on most planets, the exact meaning of the word depending on a wide variety of factors. Not a very nice word at all.

Lawn ornament: another very offensive word for dwarves.

Mellowbud: what marijuana is known as on Magicca.

Normos: humans and/or fluffies with no extraordinary abilities whatsoever.

NSR: short for Native Sapient Race. Any sapient race native to a given planet is one of that planet’s NSRs.

Pocket change: what Pierre calls a thousand dollars, because he is that rich.

Pulling a Dave: impregnating a woman out of wedlock, preferably on a couch. Finger up the ass optional.

Rock: besides the normal meaning, a very offensive word for trolls and Silicoids. Seriously, don’t call either of them a rock if you want your head to remain attached to your body.

Shite-rodent: self-explanatory. Just as some people on Earth call fluffies shitrats, some people on Magicca call woollies shite-rodents.

Splicepet: intergalactic slang for genetically engineered lifeforms created to be companions. In other words: a synonym for biotoy.

Sussy baka sense: what Nivlac insists on calling his uncanny ability to detect that someone is acting suspiciously.

The Pacts: ancient pacts between Heaven and Hell. The Pacts forbid either side interfering in the other side’s domain, and operating in the mortal world without being summoned there. Breaking the Pacts entitles the other side to respond in kind, in order to restore the balance.

The Really Bad Thing: a euphemism used by anthropomorphic personifications for a fated war between the gods, for dominion over the Prime Material Plane.

The Rules: the rules that the Deaths, other anthropomorphic personifications, angels, and demons are bound by. The Rules don’t apply to nephilim, half-demons, or ordinary dead souls Up There or Down There.

The Wizard’s Code: the code all wizards are sworn to abide by, with serious consequences for those wizards who break it. Using magic with ill intentions on normos is a big no-no. Witches and druids, being more solitary, tend to have their own personal codes, rather than one code all of them are beholden to, but most of them likewise frown upon terrorising normos with magic.

Thrall state: a state a vampire enters after being turned, in which they are enthralled to their sire, who can control how much free will they have. A thrall simply cannot defy their sire’s orders, however. It lasts until the sire either releases the thrall or is destroyed.

Urki urki: an Iokan term for sexual intercourse.

Weekend wizards: a mildly derogatory term used by full-fledged wizards, for casual practitioners of magic, usually inept ones. Used on both Earth and Magicca.

Xili: the unit of measurement used by Lumixian power detecting technology. One Hup is roughly equivalent to five xili.

X-Negatives: another word for normos, specifically humans and fluffies who have tested negative for Phenomenon X, meaning they have not yet crossed Threshold X. But it can happen at pretty much any point of one’s life.

X-Positives: humans and/or fluffies who have crossed Threshold X, activating their latent genetic potential to develop superpowers. Also known as Enlightened Ones, Miracle Children, and Children of Vulcanus.
