The American Dream (Part 45) by DreamMLP

Your orange babbeh chirped. You picked it up in your mouth. How did it get so far from the nest already? None of the litter had even opened their eyes.

You set her back down with the rest. In the nest your other babbehs chirped. Your orange and white unicorn, your green and red pegasus, your blue and black earthie, your white and red pegasus, and your solid red earthie. All chirping at nothing, despite their bellies full of milkies.

Next to the nest, Sunny snoozed away, so exhausted even her babbeh’s chirps didn’t wake her. It was tiring after all, caring for all these new foals. But you wouldn’t give it up for anything. You were thankful this litter had survived the first five minutes.

“Daddeh?”

You turned around to see your poopie babbeh sat behind you. You hadn’t even noticed him arrive.

“Dese am bwuddas an sissies?” He looked to the nest, keeping his distance.

You looked to Sunny. She was fast asleep, and nothing would wake her soon. You motioned your poopie babbeh to come closer.

Hesitantly, and with his eyes on Sunny, he took a step towards the nest. When he arrived, he looked down at his half-brothers and sisters.

“Hehe, dey am chiwpie!” Poopie lowered his leg to the white pegasus, who began to suckle on his leathery hoof.

You smiled at that. Someday, you hoped Sunny would come to accept Poopie, to let him play with your foals. Even get them used to life with a poopie around, to treat others like him the same way. But for now, this was good.

“Daddeh? Did ‘Ou hab bwuddas an sissies?” Poopie asked.

The question startled you. You thought back, how long had it been since you’d pondered any of them? You remembered Barbie well, especially her face munching on spaghetti the day before she disappeared. You remembered Green, his happy face that lasted until the boot came down on him. Orange’s cheers and smiles that turned to screams and tears when the monster swallowed her. And… that was it. You knew there were only four of you, why did something in the deepest pits of your mind say something else? Probably didn’t matter.

“Daddeh did hab bwuddas an sissies,” You said. “Dey aww gu foweba sweepies foweba ago.”

“Ow,” Poopie said, looking back to the nest and the foals. “Nu hab famiwy nu mowe?”

“Nu,” You told him. “Daddeh hab nyu famiwy… Bettah famiwy.” You patted him on the head with your hoof.

“Yay! Wan hab bettah famiwy won bwite-time!” Poopie said.

Looking over to Sunny, you couldn’t help but agree.
