Perhaps it would be an idea to demonstrate, get them a new friend fluffy wait until they become special friends, and say “hey remember when I said I got them as a demonstration why you shouldn’t bite on my cables.” then mains electrocute the new fluffy, or the old fluffy if the new one is better behaved.
