I am no NGe expert. This is what I recall. It may be completely false.
Lilith did so of its own accord after Adam ceded Earth to it through use of its lance. Mankind, upon discovering Lilith’s location, bound it to the cross and used the lance to restrain it for the Evangelion project.
Gunna keep my mouth shut, as I only have seen the Rebuild movies, and I am not sure what to say. As long as I don’t witness the Rei/Shinji’s mother with honking anime titties from the Anti-Verse as a fluffy, I’ll be fine.
