No Stupid Questions (ask anything you've wondered about Fluffies)

Does fluffmart count as a toy store?

Bio toy store most likely

personally I take it as a pet store with tons of more niche items

More than a toy shop, less than a pet store

It’s this weird middle ground where it’s both in spirit but neither on the tax forms

Like a store that only sells sea monkeys and sea monkey accessories

You’ve stumbled across a hoary old philosophical question.

Low key a lot of fluffy community stories treat fluffies as the philosophical concept of a “p-zombie”, which is a living being that is identical to a human being in every respect (talking, behaviour, nerve responses in reaction to pain) but doesn’t have a “soul” that humans do have by definition. It’s not meant to be a realistic concept; it was invented as a thought experiment so they could ask questions like “would this deserve the same rights as a human”, “is killing it a sin”, etc.

What exactly is “sensitive baby syndrome” and when did it become a thing? Main reason I ask is because I don’t recall it being a thing back during my brief prior time in the fandom (for the record, that would be around late 2017/early 2018).

low functioning autism fluffy style and blame reddit. It’s a foal that never weans barely speaks and is a constant drain on its mother.

The constant drain is arguable. It’s something that wasn’t present in No Miwkies, and seems to have been tacked on in later works as a justification for abuse.

Cheap, inexpensive, easily-made food that can only be produced by humans

From Foalout 4’s “No Miwkies” story. He came up with a concept about a foal forever stuck in the chirpy stage who only drank milk instead of eating solid food while being old enough to wean which the community expanded out as a birth defect that caused a “forever chirpy foal” state with a lifespan of only a few months.

SBS is a fun concept when the story is centered around it and the struggle of the mare trying to keep it alive but often times it’s used much like the “Bestest Babbeh” trope to have a “justified abuse” target that the mare particularly dotes on while neglecting other foals to make the human look justified in targeting both the mare and the SBS foal. So much like a lot of “Justified abuse” it’s worn out its welcome a bit.

So I had an idea pop into my head

What if Hasbio didn’t entirely develop the engineering process for fluffies?

My proposal is that hasbio got their hands on a research journal of a Victorian era scientist who worked out the formula for developing such things but ultimately lacked the modern equipment needed to properly implement his findings

The scientist in question was not trying to make fluffies nor did he create them but rather his research was the foundation of fluffy development long after his death

Maybe we could be dealing with something like actual monstrosities
That have simply been domesticated to the point of near helplessness by Hasbio?

Maybe the reason for hasbio disposing of perfectly healthy units based on minor cosmetic abnormalities is less about aesthetic and more about those abnormalities being the sign that the fluffy is more feral and could eventually have descendants that are closer to the actual monstrosities they were originally bred from?

I always thought the “fluffies as soap” was a brilliant way for HasBio to avoid certain regulations. Does anyone ever use that as a story point or even a background note?

In the pictures I’ve seen it can go either way, but it looks like it is mostly Cartlidge (like an ear) covered in fluff with a few feathers growing out at the end. It seems like the more feathers there are, the higher “quality” the fluffy.

As soap?

I don’t remember soap. The hive lore from the community in the early days tended to was that Hasbio got away with everything to avoid regulations including the “Bio Toy” classification because the US government was a silent investor on the project. The US government was interested in the DNA technology that was used to design Fluffy ponies. Such as fluffies abilities to recover from injuries very quickly such as “Quick clotting” on cuts which they could apply for military use. The US government also got Hasbio to conduct less than ethical experiments in the background on Fluffies and Hasbio was paid very handsomely in exchange for silence and denial.

It’s also a reason why there never was an attempt to “Fix” the flaws in fluffy ponies by other companies. When Hasbio collapsed. The scientists behind the project went dark because the Pentagon threatened anyone who broke the NDA with death and warned off other companies from even thinking about creating their own “bio toys” or “Improving” Fluffies.

I know some people don’t like the Hasbio canon but it’s a useful building block on a lot of the “Why would someone design this?” questions on the canon. And the answer like most things in life is “Money”

Not anymore. That fell out of favor around the end of the booru, probably half a year before

Don’t make it more complicated than it needs to be.

Plus, there’s plenty of inspiration to be drawn from modern biotechnology. Not to toot my own horn too much, but part of my headcanon (chiefly how Hasbio lost their monopoly on fluffies) was based off IRL experiments with bacteria.

I was missing for a little bit near the end (I came back in time to witness the end of the booru). People actually used “Fluffies are classed as soap”?
