So we found this foal - pt 2 (by DarkMatter)

The beginning

My first post got a lot of comments, thank you everyone, it’s very cool to see all the different ideas.

As funny as I found @Poopiest_of_bebbehs 's idea about surpassing the G-Force limits of a fluffy, and @Brothergrimm 's jumpscare idea too, it seems the course of action that was mostly agreed upon by number of comments and likes is to take this little foal home. Maybe a story can be brewed here?
And thank you very much @solidus for the name. His name will be Palmtree.

So where do we go from here? Our human character now needs to learn how to take care of this foal. Feel free to give suggestions. Anything goes, hints on how to take care of the foal, spaces, activities, food, what bad thing could happen and how can it be avoided, anything. What would you tell, through an anonymous forum, to someone who’s just adopted their first fluffy and came here for advice?

I’m somewhat ‘in the know’ with the fluffy canon, I lurked a lot, but let’s assume our human character is new to all this, so if you wanna play the part of a troll who will make things go bad or backfire, feel free to do so. This is not necessarily going to be hugbox, although our character doesn’t necessarily know it, so some accidental abuse or sadbox may occur. For example, will our guy know about checking for infections at a vet? Will he know what to feed the foal? Will he know fluffies are afraid of water and the dark? Or… what else? Let’s be creative.

I’ll look for what I find interesting in the comments and in my brain and we’ll see how it goes for Palmtree. Btw I won’t post veery frequently, drawing takes some time, but I expect to be here weekly, maybe.

Making of:
1- Still learning how to draw and getting lost in all those Krita features. The panels were different experiments on thickness of brushes and color spread, so they ended up looking a bit different from each other. Any feedback on drawing better is appreciated (especially those hind legs, they’re hard to make ‘right’ and still look kinda 2d and flat).
2- I obviously cannot draw hands. The hand holding the foal in this one was drawn over an actual picture I took of my hand holding a potato (which gave shape to the fluffy).
Improvise, adapt, overcome.

Hmm maybe the human could learn that the foal needs a litter box? Or deprnding on where it is its age, the foal will probably need milk and maybe he wont like the taste or drink too much and thrn puke cuz of how hungry they were?

the panel showing just how small the foal is is excellent

I love the idea of an unprepared fluffy dad, fumbling his way through raising his first fluffy.

Have it shit on him.

Neuter him an give him Home 50% Love / 50% Pain :smiling_imp:

Preferably at the same time, Nordic Prison style
All food is slightly spicy and served too hot
Uncomfortable and non heat retaining bedding
Shitty gritty kitty litter
Bland toys and CSPAN on the TV
A shitty but comfortable life yet a million times better than being feral

Seeing the new owner having to deal with just how clingy a foal can be, especially considering how they came to own Palmtree would be interesting. Not a “Fuck it, time to lock him in a sorrybox alone for hours” way, more simply as a challenge to overcome.

Also, adore the art style and the perspective on just how small the lil guy is is in fact wonderful.

give him a friend and hope he doesn’t think he’s being replaced

You’ll need to teach him how to use the litter box. I always wanna know how fluffies are trained to use it without a mare or other fluffy teaching them, just a human.

Such a cute little guy!! If he’s raised well he could be the sweetest little bean.

he gives the foal a bath and discovers it isn’t brown… but a beautiful silver!

and then he throws it away because a beautiful fluffy isn’t worth his compassion.

Be sure and get it fixed while it’s young and easily convinced that it must have dreamed it had balls before.

It’s sounds like the Real Life :joy:

Palmtree is walking and talking so that could mean it’s about time to ween them off milk.

Good way to check would to see if he has any teeth yet. If so start with soften Fluffy kibble with milk formula to begin with then switch to water later. Do this for about a couple of weeks, after that you can go straight to standard kibble.

If he doesn’t have any teeth yet, you’ll need a milk dispenser and fluffy milk formula. Though I think you can get away with kitten or puppy formula, I’ve also heard goat or sheep formula could possibly be used as well. As well as freezable baby teething toys, or else he’ll start chewing on things. Which is a bad habit to start.

Food wise you can stick to fluffy kibble, it’s cheap and covers most of what they need. Though that comes with the downside of making their shit reek. So I advise you to at least get him to graze on a wheat grass tray to keep his gut healthy so it doesn’t smell as bad. Sketties can be as simple as boiling a ramen pack without the spice packet and shot of ketchup. Though keep it to once a every other week.

Bathing him is going to be a must, which Palmtree is not going to enjoy. Depending on how you do it will dictate how he reacts to it in the future. Or if you’re unlucky Palmtree might be one of the rare ones hardcoded to fear water, which you can’t desensitize them to. Normal human hair shampoo should do in a pinch just don’t use it too often.
You could use the soft approach, a warm bowl of water and a rag. You may need take this route if he’s hardcoded to fear water. Dipping the rag in the bowl and cleaning him with it.
The normal approach, cradle firmly with both hands on their back like you would a kitten. One hand should have a thumb behind his front legs and the other with the thumb in front his hind legs. Rocking him into a running source of warm water, using your hands to scrub away the filth keeping the hand holding his front end and the hand on the back end can be moved freely to focus on spots. Try not to get their face and head too wet.
Then there’s the quick and dirty approach, put him the kitchen and start spraying him down warm water from the hose fossette. This will leave him with some type of trauma, making future baths a chore. Once done, dry him most of the way with a towel and putting him some place warm. Don’t use a blow dryer, that will just scare him.

I’d advise you build a pen in a place that is in line of sight for most of your day if you work from home. This is so you can react quickly if there’s an accident. It’s also reasurring for young fluffies if their owners are in line of sight. The pen could be quickly thrown together with some lose cardboard boxes and duct tape. Be sure to line the inside with newspaper or something you don’t mind getting filthy. You’ll need either a full safe room or a proper fluffy pen when he’s older. Toys can be old stuffed animals and wooden blocks. Old blankets or shirts can be used for bedding, I’d put the nest decently close to the litter tray. To cut down on bathroom accidents. Moving it further away as he gets older.

Finally a Vet visit to get shots and de-wormer. He’s a feral, he’ll have something living it’s guts. You’ll need to watch him as he uses the litter tray to clean it before he sees it, or else he’ll try eating the worms thinking they’re sketties.

Very nice comment. So far I’ve only seen this much detail about taking care of fluffies in the Hugbox text stories. I admit I haven’t read a lot of them yet, I lean a bit more into the accidental abuse/sadbox categories, though I do read a bit of everything. But I suppose headcanons differ between when each life stage happens: teeth growing, forming words and phrases, being able to learn about litter box usage, etcetera.

You’ll notice I drew Palmtree’s gums in part 1, so no teeth yet. I was doing some reading about the differences between cow and mare milk in real life. It seems cow milk has a lot more lactose and fat, and tastes more bitter, and mare milk is sweeter and has more protein to help on growth. This kinda makes sense for fluffies in their perception of taste: if fluffy milk is more like mare milk, it should taste nice and sweet for foals. And the amount of lactose and fat in cow milk can’t be great for a foal’s stomach.

The chewing habit is truly new to me, first time I’ve seen this being mentioned anywhere. But it makes some sense, yeah. Same for the wheat grass, never heard of that before. And about using human shampoo, I see that backfiring very easily. A lot of shampoos don’t have neutral pH, and may feel like burning if it touches the eyes. And that’s on humans, imagine that on fluffies?

All in all, that’s a lot of info, we’ll see how much of it our in-universe character will be able to learn and remember after the next part, heh.

PS: The blow dryer thing would be hilarious. A foal would certainly think it’s a monster roaring at them.
