Squeaky, I want to say that you are one of my biggest inspirations within fluffies. Yes, I do have a number, but your passion for creating and defining your fluffy characters is what is appealing to me. Many, especially from a certain camp tend not to put too much thought to their fluffies, or work with some shortcuts that their stories feel one-note or lack punch. If anything, I am willing to defend your approach to fluffies, as I think it one that should be fostered.
I don’t think it’ll be that easy, as people will have their disagreements. Heck, something as simple as anthrofluffs is hotly debated. On my end, I would argue that a fluffspeaking anthro fluffy that has a limtied intellect, despite being bipedeal and having ten fingers, would still count as a fluffy, but I can understand the arguments against that reasoning.
Then there’s also people who have drawn “fluffy x something”. Sometimes, its a one-off wierdbox joke, like in the case of inkiepie’s elemental fluffy or Marcusmaximus’s cubic fluffies. But than you have bread fluffs and plant fluffies, which @caneighdian has argued stray a bit from what a fluffy should be - and I agree. I’m not too hot on bread fluffies, but I also recognize and understand that they were popular for a while. Should that creative spirit be restrained for the sake of streamlining things?
I think there needs to be an incentive for people to flesh out and do longer works. Its a point I mentioned earlier, but I want to restate it because it sometimes feels like we’re entirely reliant on a person’s own passion and/or inherent interest in fluffies to tell longer stories. To build upon what @PeppermintParchment said, the ideas may come in waves. At the moment, I’ve been working on a particularly difficult story where I have ideas for the next part of the story, but then I relapse and feel a creative block that lasts a whole week.
As somebody whose been researching the history of fluffies, especially in hugbox and non-abuse, there are a number of interesting fluffies that were barely fleshed-out or, if they were, have been forgotten with the loss of the booru. One example that comes to my mind is Gowdie’s Beanie. I’m very fond of Gowdie, and I wanted to see more of Beanie. But I also know that, as a hugboxer, Gowdie had been recieving a lot of vitriol from the other camp. Yes, you can guess where I’m going with this, but my point still stands.

every one else makes a new subspecies fluffy needs to explain why they are so super special i make a new subspecies don’t need to explain anything because it is just a different looking fluffy one day you all will learn to love fluffies instead of needing to fix fluffies

Since you got to share your own taste and opinion, I feel like I should share my own, since it does reflect what I get out of fluffies, and the kind of material that I look for.
I remember that someone said that one universal trait of fluffies is that they’re “pathetic”. I sort of disagree with that. Mainly because, a lot of the fluffies that I like are fluffies I do not consider to be pathetic. Like, my interest in Carpdime’s Avocado is because of an empathy he has, as well as an innate friendliness that he extends to all his friends, human and fluffy alike. It is something that I’ve tried to express as well as elaborate on in my stories featuring him (which I’ve also discussed with Carp himself) I like Squeakyfriend’s Crazystein because he is a scientist, and definitely unusual. I like FierceDeityLynx’s Plum as, despite everything she’s been through, she desires to be a good mother, and is willing to do her best for her foals. I like @Pillows’s Petal because. despite being mute, she has an earnestness that I really appreciate. And I could keep going. But I don’t see these fluffies as “pathetic”, I see them as endearing.
But of course, that is my own taste. And my own preference. But I feel its relevant for one reason.
I remembered I had expressed a similar concern when @jberg360 mentioned that puffy griffins where, supposedly, “superior” to fluffies. We also had a problem with the redditheimer wave in 2020, with the jellenheimer community still existing on the subreddit. I’ve stated this opinion before, and I’ll say it again: when you make fluffies “too” pathetic, people will prefer to latch on to something superior, whether is jellenheimers, puffy griffins or what have you.
The point I’m trying to make is that there has to be some positive value to fluffies, especially if its going to get people to stay in the genre, or at least make lasting contributions. I know a certain camp “enjoys” them for being pathetic and ideal fodder for all kinds of creative damage, but its not for everybody. And I know the stories that have not only interested me, but have moved others, both from the hugbox and sadbox camps. I think that more should explored within the positives of fluffies.

just an observation everyone want to use muh head cannon to change fluffies even though you would assume everyone is here is because they liked fluffies
I get the idea behind wanting them to be pathetic, but that word might be too negative or extreme for everyone to gel with.
I like them to have pathos, and having them be the universe’s underdog is a good way for that to happen at times.
