It has been a week since the encounter with Joseph, the Squeakyfriend. You have resumed work as per normal, and things have simmered down. You have scheduled another appointment with Mr Adams, this time at the end of the month. So for now, you just want to chillax and take it easy. You switch on the television.

“We’re happy to have you today, Mr Adams.”

You laugh to yourself. Most people would be annoyed, but you do like Sam. You realize that the channel you are watching right now is Fluffy Planet, the spinoff of Animal Planet created by Discovery Inc. Since Hasbio is a subsidiary of Hasbro, which also owns the Discovery channel and sister networks, it only made sense that they’d have an entire channel devoted towards fluffy content, management, care and entertainment. Its not the same as the Fluffy-specific FluffTV, which has everything in Fluffspeak for Fluffies to understand. In contrast, Fluffy Planet is for Fluffy owners, breeders and enthusiasts.

And of course, one of the bigger icons on Fluffy Planet is Mr Samuel Adams.

“Mr Adams, its so nice to see you.”

The host is dressed up like an adventurer, with outdoor gear, but her blonde hair and rather large bosom gives off an image of a personality that’s definitely not seen the wild.

“How are you?”

“Oh busy as always,” grins Sam, with that smile of his. “Been involved with writing a book of mine, as well as my other projects, but I always have time for our little friends.”

“And today we have a fluffy breed that you want to introduce to us on our show?”

“That’s right Gilda, I would like to introduce the Emotional Support Fluffy. And to explain the Emotional Support Fluffy, let me bring in the Hasbio staff involved with their creation.”

As he says this, another person steps in. You recognize the labcoat, and the Hasbio logo on his left pocket. However, his face his blurred. And, as he starts speaking, the voice is heavily modulated. Hasbio, as always, wants to keep their trade secrets.

“Hello, so you must be <BEEP!>”

“Indeed I am. And the Emotional Support Fluffy, or E.S. Fluffy, is the result of continued development in a genetically engineered equine that is beyond the mere categorization of a biotoy, and more towards an engineered Animal Companion. We are drawing upon the experience we had with the Fluffy Companion we created from the Constructor Breed, as well as the Chope fluffy from our Fluffus line.” ( >>29430 >>29432 >>29505 >>52101)

With a quick wave of his hand, the scientist conjures up a hologram for the audience, as well as Sam and Gilda, to see. The studio is outfitted with advanced holography that allows guests and the presenters to present 3-D models via interactive holograms.

Development of the Emotional Support Fluffy

The first hologram that he introduces is clearly a fluffy. However, its legs are lacking fluff. It seems to resemble the Type 2 fluffies that Sam once talked about.

“This is the version 1 in our project. Made mostly from guinea pig DNA hosted on the equine template, the product was still fairly animalistic, and very shy. It avoided human contact as much as possible. Also, this variant and its progeny did not generate the horns and wings we were hoping to replicate from typical fluffies. As such, we rendered these sterile, and they can now be viewed in the Prototypes Enclosure at Hasbio.”

He then brings out the second model. Unlike the Type 1, it is more equine looking, as well as a unicorn horn. You feel like you have seen this fluffy before.

“This here is the Version 2 Emotional Support Fluffy, which had more pony and miniature horse DNA in it. This was the first type we allowed to the public in limited quantities and for testing, but sadly had the limitation of only having unicorn and earth type variants. We have retired the line, but some owners still have some of these early E.S. Fluffies.”

He then brings up the third model. You had heard about the Emotional Support Fluffy before, and had seen some fluffies that looked like it, but the scientist is now conforming this recently introduced breed.

“And this is our version 3, the current market version of the product. We included the fowl DNA to attain perfect fluff distribution, drawing from the Silkie breed of fowl. The inclusion of parrot DNA, specifically African Grey Parrot, Sulphur Crested Cockatoo and Kea, has allowed for better speech mimicry and understanding, as well as a slightly higher intelligence for a fluffy. We currently estimate Emotional Support Fluffies to be about the same level of intelligence as the previous Marcusmaximus and Squeakyfriend breeds.”

As he keeps talking, the hologram starts to split, and create three small holograms, reflecting the popular fluffy types of earth pony, Pegasus and unicorn.

“The inclusion of the Avian DNA has allowed more pegasi to be bred from ES Fluffies, as pegasi populations are more popular. So, where the standard fluffy foal, independent of genetic influence from parents, has a one in three chance of becoming an earthie, Pegasus, or unicorn, a standard ESF has a 40%, or 2 in 5 chance at being born as a Pegasus over the other two fluffy types.”

The next hologram that appears besides the scientist is the logo for the Association for the Wellbeing of Fluffy Ponies, or AWFP. Like ABAP, AWFP is an organization that was established to fight for fluffy rights and wellbeing, in a manner PETA had attempted ages ago. However, and unlike ABAP, which is more focused on the adoption of fluffies as pets and treating them as such, AWFP functions as more of a rescue and rehabilitation organization. They have their similarities, and Sam does know the head of AWFP (in more ways then one) but, for the most part, they are separate entities.

“The E.S. Fluffy was developed with input from AWFP, to create a fluffy that can perform in specific service roles. The idea is to have an animal companion that is easy to train and is more oriented to experienced adult owners. In addition, we keep the colours of ES Fluffies less colourful, as they are not intended to be marketed as toys to the younger demographics.”

“I understand that certain fluffies in the past had been trained for psychiatric service.”

Sam starts to speak. “Indeed. One reason why we work with AWFP is because AWFP offers training for fluffies to be able to perform a psychiatric service, much like the previous models from the Constructor and Fluffus breeds. However, due to the limitations of fluffies to acquire specific intellectual developmental skills, or to learn new things basically, AWFP has not generated enough fluffies in this line. However, with these new E.S. Fluffies, they have managed to train more AWFP certified psychiatric service fluffs.”

Gilda then asks, “So what are the advantages of having a psychiatric service fluffy?”

As she says this, Sam moves his hand, and shows a fluffy tending to a man. A broken bottle is next to man, and, from the bits of glass, it seems evident that the man had attempted to harm himself with the bottle.

“Subject A was an individual who was in a monitored psychiatric ward. Prior to introduction of the ES Fluffy, the man started practising self-harm by whatever sharp implement he could get his hands on. After a while, the subject had to be restricted. Upon being introduced to an ES Fluffy, the fluffy managed to intercept the compulsive self-harming behaviour, as well as provide emotional support. After living with the fluffy for a while, this destructive tendency had stopped.”

Sam slides his hand again to conjure up the next picture.

In the next picture, you see a house on fire in the background, as firefighters work towards dousing in the fires. In the foreground though, you see a crying child, hugging an E.S. Fluffy with firefighter colours.

“In Subject B, the individual was a child who had survived a rather traumatic fire incident. As a means of psychiatric counselling, an E.S. Fluffy enabled to child to have an emotional support during a difficult time, as well as an aide to bond with, until he was able to be brought to a local orphanage.”

The next slide that Sam brings up is slightly disturbing.

There is a woman, kneeling on the ground in frustrating with her arms covering her eyes. In front of her is a revolver, but it is not loaded. Its bullets are strewn across the floor, and its barrel is clearly empty. Behind her, a fluffy can be seen, holding a phone.

“Subject C’s case is the most interesting. While similar to Subject A, it is also slightly different. The woman in question had a history of attempting suicide through various means, but not going through with it. In this case, she was about to off herself with the revolver, when the fluffy managed to throw the gun on the ground. The fluffy then came in with a phone, and offered to deal the suicide hotline for her.”

Gilda is a little bit concerned as she sees this. “Knowing the fact there’s a loaded weapon there, wouldn’t the fluffy be afraid? And I know of enough horror stories of what people do to their fluffies.”

The Hasbio scientist then takes a moment to interject. “Ah yes, but see suicide is as in-the-moment thing, and the fluffies actions were enough to snap the woman out of it.”

“But the fluffy could have been hurt. Or even killed.”

“That is true, but the Emotional Support Fluffy has a level of courage and intelligence you won’t get most fluffies. If other fluffies have the tendency to be self-centred and abandon their friends, owners and herds for their own benefit, E.S. fluffies put their lives on the line because of their empathy. They have their owners interests at heart, more than anything.”

Despite the voice modulation, you can feel the passion from the scientists speech. He seems to be very proud of the fluffy. Not just as a mere product, but as a companion to the weak and challenged.

“To put it simply,” says Sam, “they’re the friend we all wish we had.”

Another image pops up.

The image is of an uncertain child with a schoolbag, outside of his house.

“Aside from psychiatric service, E.S. Fluffies can also work with children, and can provide that much needed self-esteem boost that other fluffies cannot provide. They are portable, loyal and soft as hell.

And yes, they poop in the litterbox.”

The final image Sam and the scientist brings up is of a happy man, heading out to work. The scientist then takes the moment to talk about the training.

“Training for E.S. Fluffies is very particular. We send the ones we breed and create from our labs to AWFP, where the go through rigorous testing to be certified as psychiatric service fluffs. The E.S. Fluffies that fail this testing are soft-culled.”

“Culled?!”

“As in, we withdraw them from testing, and sell them as normal pets. However, an AWFP certified fluff is well worth the price. Where a service dog can be range of $15k to $30K, a high skilled desirable E.S. Fluffy will only cost a mere fraction of that amount.”

As you keep watching them list the prices of the Emotional Support Fluffy, you find yourself drifting into sleep.

Part 4.5 of the Sam Adams Guide, now on Fluffycommunity.com

This was a collaboration with @emotionalsupportfluffy after discussing with him what his breed of Fluffies would be like, based on my series. I might do more “spotlights” like this in future, as I would love to collaborate with any hugboxer and enutralboxer artist who has their own ideas on their fluffies depicted as a unique “breed”.

The next of the Sam Adams Guide is going to be VERY interesting. Stay tuned.
