We Are Not Toys! Part 1 by Karn

Spike Character originally by NekuChan. Flash/Gigi and new Spike art by Karn/Princess Purrpaws

The sound of the bell awoke Spike, as it did every day, the loud and unbroken clamor never failing to startle the poor foal from his slumber. Shaking with an audible yelp as he rose, he looked around the fluffy pen for any signs of danger. All around him, Spike saw as the other foals began to stumble upward awkwardly, the ringing scaring and confusing the tired fluffies. No matter how many forevers they had been here at what the humans called The Daycare, it was next to impossible for the foals to acclimate to the rude awakening.

“…Spike nu wike wowd wingin’ ting…aw’ways scawe Spike an’ gib meanie wakies…”

Feeling his stomach rumble, Spike clutched his belly with his hooves, his gaze now on the younger foals who made their way to the fluffy mares along the wall. It bothered Spike how they were caged and kept seperate from the fluffy babies, with their eyes and mouths covered and only their teats hanging out of their enclosures. His eyes lingered longingly on a foal who was happily nursing, gently kneading with it’s tiny hooves as it fed. Sighing slightly, Spike wished that he could have milkies too. But because his teeth had begun to come in, he was forced to wait for the humans who ran The Daycare to feed him when they came in, which was usually countless forevers after the bell woke him up. In the meantime, the sullen foal slowly made his way to the waiting area of the fluffpen.

There were only two other foals roughly the same age as spike that were already in the waiting area of the enclosure, a pink filly named Gigi and a slightly older alicorn colt named Flash. He was an off blue color but had a yellow mane and tufts of yellow along his haunches. Despite his hunger and the ennui that The Daycare caused him, Spike smiled as he saw the alicorn. He had known him since his eyes had opened many forevers ago and since then, Flash had watched out for Spike and the other foals, trying his best to keep them from getting hurt too badly by the monsters…

The monsters. Spike shuddered as he even thought about them. It would only be shortly after he ate and made good poopies before they arrived. His smile now dwindling as he walked up to the pair of foals, Spike meekly greeted the fluffies.

"*sigh Gud bwite time Gee’gee. An’ gud bwite time Fwash."

Noticing Spike’s aproach, the filly smiled as her tail began to wag. She then walked up and gave the foal a tight and friendly embrace.

"Gud bwite time Spike Gee’gee su happies tu see yu 'gain "

Spike couldn’t help but coo as he returned the hug. Despite how happy Gigi made him, deep down, he knew that her upbeat spirit wouldn’t last. The filly had only been here for two days and had gotten exceptionally lucky. She hadn’t been picked yet.

"Tank yu Gee’gee. Spike wuv huggies an’ nee’d dat tuday."

As they ended their coupling, Spike then noticed Flash, who was looking towards the foal with a concerned smile, his gaze occasionally drifting to the large clock upon the playroom’s wall.

"Gud bwite time Spike. Yu sweep otay wast nite-nite time?"

Not wanting to overly concern his friend, Spike decided that a little white lie might be preferable to the truth.

"Spike sweep otay Fwash. Tank yu fow askin’ Spike.Fwash kno hao wong tiww nummies?

Nodding slightly, Flash pointed to the large clock he had been observing.

“Dat pointy ting wight deww? It am sayin’ dat fwuffies hab wan 'owwa fow nummies.”

Clearly confused and not understanding what an hour really meant, Gigi and Spike simply stared blankly at the alicorn with the filly tilting her head at him.

“Wat dat mean Fwash?”

“*sigh Wan 'owwa am same ting as a foweba…”

“An aftah nummies, hao wong tiww pwaytime?”

Flash gave his friend a knowing look of concern and dread.

“Pwaytime nu am wong aftah nummies…”

Smiling as she cheered, Gigi was clearly excited at the mention of food, as well as playing. And for all she knew, there was no cause for alarm, as the last two playtimes had been wonderful for her. Now dancing slightly as she sang about “nummies” and “pwayin’”, Spike envied her naivety. The foals that were left in the enclosure were given toys, crayons, and even little picture books to enjoy. And while it may have seemed like it was the humans being nice, Spike knew better now. After only three days, Flash had helped him understand why the foals left in the pen got toys. It was to keep them occupied. It was so they wouldn’t notice what happened to the rest of the foals.

After the smaller foals had fed, they too slowly made their way to the waiting area, with the smallest having to be slightly herded by Flash. Watching as the alicorn patiently and lovingly led the babies to the waiting area, Spike secretly wished he were half as brave or as smart as Flash. Once all of the foals were in the waiting area, there was a slight hush,as all but the newest fluffies knew what was coming.

As Spike heard the playroom doorknob jostle, his heart was filled with an odd mix of fear and longing. He knew that the door meant that the humans were here, so that meant at long last, he could finally fill his cramping stomach. But sadly he also knew what would happen shortly after. He knew that soon, the monsters would arrive. Watching the door open, the foal saw that it was the black-maned woman who had arrived first. Spike let out a small sigh of relief. While the humans weren’t very nice, the foal considered the black-maned woman kinder than the others. Once, when the monsters were hurting Spike and being rougher than usual, he had screamed and cried out, with the black-maned woman chasing the monsters away from him. Walking over to her desk, she put down a folder full of papers before approaching the pen, a small smile on her face as she saw the older trio. “Hold on just a moment and I’ll get you your nummies. I have to check the milk fluffies and make sure that they aren’t hungry first.”

After a few minutes of the black-maned woman fussing and jiggling around the cages, she seemed content and gathered a small bit of kibble. Taking some lukewarm milk, she then mixed it only slightly, with a great portion of the food still being dry and hard. Placing the three foals in a milkcrate that was atop the plastic cubbies where the monsters kept their clothes. Lowering the bowl of food, the black-maned woman left to her desk before the foals could even complain about their food.

As Gigi knelt to take her first bite, she suddenly went wide eyed as a slight cracking sound preempted a sudden scream of pain, followed by her grabbing her mouth as she began to cry.

“*SCREEEEEEE!!! *huuu…huuu…huuu…Gee’gee hab wowst mow’f huwties…*huuu…huuu.huuu…Dees nummies am tu hawd tu nom…*huuu…huuu…huuu…Nu wike…”

Before Spike could interject, he watched as Flash began to move his hooves through the kibble. Suddenly meeting the younger colt’s gaze, the alicorn nodded to the sobbing filly.

"Spike, hewp Gee’gee wiff saddies an’ heawt huwties…"

Blinking a few times before realizing what the alicorn meant, Spike nodded, trotting closer to the whimpering filly and hugging her as he tried his best to comfort her.

"Deww, deww Gee’gee. It am otay…"

Cooing softly as Spike held her and gave her back light strokes and pats, Gigi calmed quickly, even as small droplets of blood came trickling down her mouth. It was a fluffy’s basic instinct to hug and console another of it’s kind if it were injured or sad, but at The Daycare, there was another and far more sinister reason to try and keep the other foals from crying or bringing attention to themselves. Spike himself had seen it happen, a foal would cry a little too long or get hurt, and one of the humans would come and take it, and it would never be seen again. At first it had made Spike really happy, as he thought that the humans were taking the sad foals and tending to their wounds and maybe even giving them nice homes with loving new mothers or fathers, but Flash had set him straight, fearful that the younger foal might, in a bid for a home himself, act out for attention.

The alicorn was loathe to tell him, but he had seen what happened to the foals they took away, to the foals that the monsters were done with, the ones the humans replaced after many forevers. He told them that they went into a pile outside the building and the humans gave them the worst burny hurties and forever sleepies! Even as Spike had cried and shook his head, not wanting to believe him, Flash made him promise to never upset the humans, and to never let any of the other foals know. The alicorn was fearful that if the younger amongst them knew, it would cause a panic and then the humans might replace the whole lot of them.

As the foal finally calmed Gigi, the alicorn waved his hooves slightly to get their attention, pointing to the bowl as he smiled. He had separated their breakfast into three portions, with the softest food on one side, leading to the harder and dryer food.

"Am otay nao Gee’gee. Fwash taek nummies an’ gib yu dah softest wans. Spike, yu an’ Fwash wiww num dah hawder nummies, otay?"

Nodding, Spike put on a brave smile for Gigi and Flash. He was glad to do it for the kind filly but he knew that he’d be thirsty all day again. Almost every time the humans gave them milk and kibble for breakfast, they wouldn’t give them any water, which would be fine if they added enough of the milk to begin with. Sighing to himself, Spike trotted over to the side of the bowl adjacent to Flash and began to slowly eat the kibble, noticing that while not as soft as he’d like, the alicorn had clearly taken the hardest and most difficult to eat pieces for himself. Looking to Flash, the foal only gave a knowing glance, silently thanking him as they all ate breakfast.

It was a long time after the trio had finished their meal before the black-maned lady came back to check on them. Once she saw that they were done, she put them back in the enclosure, where the foals could see that there was a line to the litterboxes. It was like this each and every day, with the humans telling the foals to make good poopies and pee-pees before playtime. Making their way to the row of litter filled pans, the trio relieved themselves as well before heading back to the waiting area. As the herd of foals around the trio yawned, played, and embraced each other, Spike heard the doorknob turning again. Looking nervously to the alicorn, the foal visibly winced.

"Am it time nao, Fwash?"

Narrowing his eyes suspiciously, the alicorn looked back to the clock, shaking his head.

“Nu…am aw’mos time…buh stiww tu eww’y…Fwash nu wike dis…”

Peering towards the door cautiously, with the filly giggling and oblivious to the perceived dangers, the duo saw as another human, a woman with a short, yellow mane walked in. Neither Spike, nor Flash had ever seen her before and as Spike was about to ask Flash what this meant, the yellow-maned woman walked over to the pen in a hurried pace and looked down at the foals with a nasty and cruel expression on her face.

"When I had heard the rumors that you were using…those things, I swore to god, that it couldn’t be true, said Karen sneering slightly at the baby fluffies that were all gathered at the inner rim of the enclosure. After taking a hard look at the pitiable creatures, she walked back over to Diane, who sighed as she gathered the supplies she’d need for the day.

“It was actually the Head of the Board’s idea. He thought that the younger children could play with them and learn how to better care for their pets at home.”

Shaking her head as she sat down next to Diane, Karen shook her head disapprovingly. “Children shouldn’t be touching those things, let alone playing with them. I mean does it even work?! And what about the older kids?! The ones that the truancy officers bring?! And the ones from juvie?!” As she continued to ramble and chastise, Karen fumbled in her purse and pulled out a candy bar and began to loudly crinkle and tear at it’s wrapper.

Trying to hide her clear distaste for the woman, Diane sighed quietly to herself. “Well, it’s not perfect. But it’s what Mr.Short wants, so until I hear otherwise we have to use the shi…the fluffies. And true, the older kids, well…lets just say that it’s hard to clean up after them sometimes. I do try to keep them from playing their…rougher games with the foals, but kids will be kids…So tell me, how long are you going to be on my shift again?”

Truly oblivious to Diane’s distaste for her, Karen noshed loudly on the chocolate and nougat, small slivers of the candy flying from her mouth as she spoke loudly. "Well honey, I have to log seventy-four hours of training experience before the Board says I’m “qualified” to run shifts here all by my lonesome. As though I don’t know how to watch children?! I mean I’ve been watching after my nieces and nephews for nearly a decade, but no, that doesn’t count. And do they call, no never. You see, it’s like I always say…

Waiting until the angry looking, yellow-maned woman was gone, Spike sighed with relief. Something about the way she had stared at all of the foals, there was such a look of…of hate in her eyes. And based on the expression that Flash had on his face, the foal knew that he had noticed it too. Before the pair could even talk, the foals could hear it, the sound like countless, thundering footsteps coming from the hallway that led into the playroom. They were here…the monsters.

Despite the many forevers the foal has spent here, Spike began to hyperventilate. His mind began to grow foggy, as it often did right before the monsters came. Scared out of his wits, Spike failed to notice as Gigi looked to him, confused and nervous as she watched the foal trembling.

“Wat am wong, Spike? Am yu otay?”

Suddenly, Spike felt a hard smack on his back, snapping him out of his stupor. Flash put his hooves around the foal, lightly shaking him.

“It am otay! Nu be newb’is Spike. Yu gowna be otay. Fwash nee’ yu tu hewp maek odah babbehs cawm an’ happies, otay?”

Shaken from his daze, Spike nodded to the alicorn. The foal was still scared, but Flash was right. There were more important matters to attend to. As the uproar of the stampeding monsters grew ever closer, Spike and Flash quickly tended to the foal, specifically the younger ones and those that were new to The Daycare. Calming those that were upset, and wrangling the ones that tried to leave the taped off waiting area, the duo did their best to keep order. Once it was clear that there weren’t anymore loud criers or runners, then Flash calmly addressed the foals.

“Nu be scawed an’ nu cwy. It am otay, Fwash pwomise. Nao, fwuffies dat wewe pwayed wiff wast bwite time, yu gets furdah back. Samsies if you hab tu mani huwties. Fow nyu babbeh fwends…if yu gets takens, nu stwuggle, nu twy an’ wun way’. If yu gets huwties, twy an’ nu cwy ow yeww…an’ wen dey am hewe fow pikin’ fwuffies, nu weave dis spot…otay?”

While a few of the foals simple shuffled as the alicorn commanded, many were new and confused. They had simply lost too many babies over the last few days and now most of the foals weren’t prepared for what was coming. As the door slammed wide open, Spike gulped audibly as he saw them running in, shrieking and screaming as they took off their coats and placed them in the plastic cubbies. Whimpering slightly, the foal suddenly felt a hoof around his shoulder. Looking beside him, he saw Flash smiling as he pulled him in tightly before nodding to the foal.

"Spike wiww be otay…Fwash pwomise."

Taking a deep breath, the foal prepared himself for what was coming. Looking to the alicorn as he took his place near the front of the waiting area, Spike nodded back, silently thanking the brave alicorn.

“Tank yu, Fwash…”

As the children excitidly entered, Diane walked to the coat cubbies and greeted them. Once they had all put up their hoodies and jackets, she escorted them over to the foal pen. “Ok kids, remember, you can only take one baby fluffy to play with, and only until study time begins in fifteen minutes.” Noticing Karen’s sour face as she looked towards the foals again, Diane shook her head , almost unnoticeably. “Now go ahead and form a single file line, just like yesterday and walk up and pick a foal for playtime!”

As the monsters lined up, some of the foals began to chirp with excitement and curiosity. Spike could hardly blame them, as the monsters looked like smaller humans. But the foal knew better, knew far better now. Sadly, Spike couldn’t warn them, for fear of scaring all of them, so he looked on in horror as he saw some of the monsters take the eager babies, the excited foals sitting on their haunches, their front nubs in the air as the chorus of the word upsies could be heard throughout the enclosure. As the line advanced, Spike winced and nearly made sicky water as he saw a monster crush one of the poor foals to death. Thankfully, it had been quick and sudden, with the deceased baby not having had the time to scream. Despite most of the foals being oblivious, an unlucky few had seen what had happened and began to shriek in terror, peeping and chirping nervously.

“*chirp…*chirp…*chirp…nu wan huwties!..*chirp…*chirp…*chirp…”

“*SCREEEEEEE!!! Brudah?! NUUUUUUU!!!”

“*chirp…*chirp…*chirp…Nu taek babbeh! P’wease! Nu wan gu foweba sweepies! NUUUUUUU!!!”

Sighing as she saw one of her kids, Matthew hold his foal too tightly, Diane walked over and took him out of the lineup of kids who had picked out their fluffies. As she escorted him aside, she could tell that he hadn’t even noticed that the foal he had chosen for playtime had died. “Matthew…I know I’ve told you time and time again, you have to be gentle with the babies. You’ve squished yours.”

Looking down and lightly shaking the poor deceased foal, the child began to whimper as he dropped it’s body. Looking to the pen, he started to walk back before Diane lightly tugged on his shoulder. “No young man. You have to learn how to play with your things far more carefully. I’m afraid you will have to do without a fluffy, for the entire day. Maybe that will teach you to be more cautious.”

Pouting as he crossed his arms, the child ran back to the other children, clearly upset that he had been denied a replacement.

Spike’s blood had ran cold when he saw the monster that had crushed the black foal suddenly charge towards the pen, clearly wanting to kill more fluffies. Thankfully, the foal saw that the black-maned woman had saved them yet again. He knew that The Daycare was an awful place, but he had to admit, part of him was happy to at least know that the black-maned woman was looking out for him. Trying his best not to look to the foals that were being held by the monsters, some already peeping and screaming in panic, Spike already saw that Flash had been taken, as he was nearly everyday. One of the monsters had nearly grabbed a poor foal whose back leg was badly hurt, maybe even twisted, but Spike had watched with grim fortitude as the alicorn had walked in front of the injured foal and began to dance, pleasing the monster so greatly, that it chose him instead.

When Spike had first met Flash, and the foal truly understood what The Daycare was, he thought the alicorn was insane to try and get picked on purpose. But Flash was special. Somehow, he could please and even soothe the monsters. So the alicorn told Spike that it was his job to spare as many foals as possible, to protect them for as long as he could.

Distracted as he watched the alicorn, calm in the grip of a monsterous fluffy killer, Spike suddenly heard a terrified scream. Looking to see where it had come from, the foal saw in horror as the last monster was grabbing for Gigi. And based on the look of shock and horror in her eyes, she had seen what happened to the poor black foal. Gritting what few teeth he had, Spike ran towards her, pushing her hard as he then tried to awkwardly jump up and down, flailing his nubs as wildly as he could.

“Hewe! Taek Spike wiff yu! Spike wan gu wiff yu!”

Even as he yelled it, his heart began to beat faster and faster, an icy grip on his chest. What was he doing?! He cared for Gigi a great deal, but he had been taken yesterday and had nearly died twice. Closing his eyes as the monolithic hand wrapped around his body, Spike yelped slightly as he felt himself being lifted into the air.

“Now, does everyone have a fluffy?” Diane gave a stern look to Matthew who almost spoke up before crossing his arms, his cheeks still red and tear stained. “Good, now I’ll get the toys for you and the poor foals that didn’t get chosen today.” Walking to the corner of the room, Diane leaned down and picked up a light blue plastic bin, walking it near the children. Taking dozens of varied toys out, she scattered them across the playroom floor before taking the remaining ones and pouring them into the enclosure, nearly burying a panic stricken foal. “Ok kids, fifteen minutes, starting now. Have fun!”

While many of the monsters had chosen several meanie toys to torture and kill the foals with, Spike’s monster was far more excited by his foal, and his foal alone. Gripping him by his midsection tightly, the poor foal’s eyes slightly bulging as he struggled to breathe, the monster would laugh and shriek at him, occasionally spinning as he held Spike far away and as high as he could, screaming the word airplane as he did so. As he dipped up and down, the poor foal could see the horrors of playtime for himself. Once monster had taken a tub of Play-Doh and was taking little bits of the moldable toy, rolling it into balls before forcibly shoving it into a yellow filly’s mouth. As she tried to scream, the monster giggled and laughed, pushing glob after glob down her gullet until her eyes went glassy and her body went limp.

“*gurgle Nu mowe meanie nummies…*gurgle…p’wease…babbeh nu can b’weev…*gurgle…”

Another monster had a toy truck that the evil creature had forced a gray colt into the front of, the mock opening being far to small and narrow to fit the fluffy normally. As it screamed, it’s lower body awkwardly wedged into the fake passenger’s side of the toy, the monster pushed the toy across the floor, occasionally releasing it to veer into the walls and crash violently.

“*SCREEEEEEE!!! WET BABBEH OW’T!!! *SCREEEEEEE!!! NU CAN FEEW WEGGIES!!! *SCREEEEEEE!!!”

Getting dizzy as the beast gripped him tighter, Spike felt the air blowing against his face, like glass tearing at his skin. Trying his best not to scream, lest he further anger the monster, the foal clenched his jaw as hard as he could, until he felt one of his still forming teeth crack. As he flew through the air, harder and harder, Spike focused on only one thought.

“*Nee’ tu be ah bwave fwuffy…”

“*Nee’ tu be ah bwave fwuffy…”

“*Nee’ tu be ah bwave fwuffy…”

“*Nee’ tu be ah bwave fwuffy…wike Fwash.”

And that’s part one of my entry.

I know that right now, Spike might not seem like his character bio, but I’m going for more of a how did he get there/origins thing rather than a he’s already like that. Hope that’s ok and please bear with the unusual medium of Spike’s bio. I promise you won’t be disappointed. :slightly_smiling_face:

And to those of you who are reading this, why not enter Mutagen’s Munchkins yourself? I bet you have something awesome to add to the contest. And look right above, why a handy link for you to click on. Good luck fellow entrants.

Foals on a frikkin bratty shitty kids :cold_sweat::scream:

Good gundams! So the fuckin monsters are kids i mean its so insane having them killed by dumb kids , they are biotoy but not like this :cold_sweat::sob:

They basically just put them there to die …

May they find peace in skettiland.

This is really good. The kids are too young for playing with fluffies, so they break their toys by not being careful enough with them. But since foals are cheap and easily replaceable, new ones are always available the next day.

I hate kids and karens.

Its even unsafe for kids to play especially if they start shittin on them…which serves them right. :grimacing:

It would be poetic justice but sadly that’s why Diane makes them relieve themselves right before playtime.

She’s at least a bit more normal to know whats wrong with those retard kids :triumph:

Would love to see one foal still manage to have some shit for a meanie monstah :smiling_imp:

Until you lightly club them over the head.

Repeatedly.

Then you can ask them if they enjoyed it.

And point out that’s what the animal they just tortured felt. Only, ten times as bad.

On my cousin, this worked wonders.

As long as the story made you feel something :slightly_smiling_face:
And of course I don’t advocate the children’s behavior, nor the daycare workers.

I figured that much from the 4th of july series.

The title was too intriguing. It’s a different sort of abuse - unthinking and unaware. Not the deliberate sadism we usually see.

Gotcha. I can and do read some abuse stuff, but its not my first choice, generally speaking. Depending on how I feel I might venture more later.

I really liked this story. As a young Angst, I went to a rather shitty daycare as a kid. Thank goodness we only had two hermit crabs**

Daycares and children are insane. I really liked this story and feel so much pity for these foals.

Also, Matthew, WTF kid?! Don’t let that one play with fire. Or pointy objects.

**one pinched a child who had decided to mess with them. An older kid told them that they’d have to put the hermit crab down because he had tasted blood!

Being older now, that’s kind of hilarious to me. At the time though I believed he was going to old yeller the poor hermit crab. Thankfully, the hermit crab lived another day…to hermit.
