The irony is she probably lost her foals to the elements or hostile environment OR a human found them and adopted em when they were her ‘perfect’ litter. That’s an interesting thought.
In a lot of stories the pregnant mothers are able to just >know< if something is wrong with the unborn babies as well as seemingly feel the exact moment that they miscarry.
Suppose this paralyzed one gives birth, would she still recognize the babies even though she doesn’t “feel” the connection?
I suppose it comes down to the writer’s choice. You could just as easily say that hormones alone are enough for her to recognize them.
